Written from the point of view of 30-year-old Nicky as she recalls the vivid images of that fateful December, her tale is one of love and courage, of tragedy and redemption, and of the ways in which the human heart always seeks to heal itself.

"Shreve does a skilled job of portraying grief, conflict and anger while leaving room for hope, redemption and renewal. Her characters are sympathetic without being pitiable, and her prose remains deceptively simple and eloquent throughout." (Publishers Weekly)
"Intriguing Story and Characters"
This is the first book that I've read by this author. I really enjoyed this book, it captured my interest at the very beginning and held it until the end. The character development was very good, by the end of the book I felt that I knew the characters and felt empathy for all of them and the losses that they endured. I also appreciated the realistic ending which fit the story so well. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
"Nice, Interesting, Easy Read"
This is the 4th or 5th A. Shreve novel I have listened to/or read. Her few characters are interesting and easy to handle. The issues brought up are presented from several points-of-view. This is rarely handled as well as Ms. Shreve did within this book. It is what I consider "light and easy," reading, yet there is substance in this audio book so you are not left as though you had just consumed marsh mellows.
