As Akkarin reveals more, Sonea does not know what to believe or what she fears most - that the truth is as terrifying as he claims or that he is trying to make her his accomplice in black magic.

"A wonderfully and meticulously detailed world, and an edge-of-the-seat plot, this book is a must for lovers of good fantasy." (Jennifer Fallon)
"Best book I have heard in a long time"
When I started out reading this trilogy,I thought the book 1 was good,a little slow at times, but we need time to let her build the characters and let us get to know them,by book 2 we knew them all and were able to enjoy the story and let it wrap itself around us,by the end of book 3 I felt as if I was there with the characters, and when someone died I felt like I lost a friend,Bravo Ms. Canavan,I have not enjoyed a book this much in a LONG time, and I look forward to more of your work.
"Good story, thirsty narrator!"
Overall I liked the story, but the narrator's constant sipping/swallowing was very disruptive for me.
"Not great but still good."
Like the rest of the series this book is entertaining with out being extraordinary. This particular book has more fighting and a less logical plot then the rest. Still it is fast passed and fun with colorful characters even if many of the plot points feel like there were put there solely to make sure the story didn't end too early and not because things would have logical happened as written. As noted by others there are strong homosexual overtones as well. Whether you are ok with that or not be ready to take a break form the story every now and again to be preached to. Not every author gets lucky and writes Harry Potter. So, if you are fine with a flaw or two and you don't want to reread the only three books in the world that meet all your standards again until next week, then this is a good book to fill the gap.
"What happened?"
I loved the first book! The second would have been just as good if I didn't constantly feel like the author was trying to justify homosexualism (there was a great relationship building up there, but the "mood" was totally destroyed by what felt like preaching). This last book however did something no one else seems to have a problem with - a guardian having a romantic relationship with his protégé. This just smacks of someone taking advantage of his leadership role over a young impressionable woman. I'm quitting this book before the end because it just infuriates me every time I listen to the narrator gushing about how handsome the High Lord is with his shirt off. Shame on you Trudi Canavan for relaying to young people (and old) that this is okay! I know too many people who battle this mindset every day.
"An enjoyable trilogy. A decent performance."
This is an enjoyable trilogy. I got into it more than I thought I would. The author definitely allows you to build an emotional connection to the characters. It was a decent performance by the narrator. Not the best I've heard, but solid enough to not detract in any way from the story.
"Wonderful book"
The whole Black Magician's trilogy was a wonderful group of books. At the end of the series, it made me long for more. I found that Miss Trudi wrote another series with Sonea as a main character. I am interested in reading that. I am currently enjoying Terry Goodkind's "Sword of Truth" series.
Never underestimate someone with humble beginnings.
"If you liked the other 2 you'll like this one"
Good end to the series with lots of action and plot twists. I really wish Canavan would lay off plugging gay rights into the book (we get it stop smashing our face with it.) After reading the reviews of the next series it looks like it only gets worse so I doubt I'll buy them.
I absolutely love my audible account, makes its from enjoying a book to loving the stories found in the books. Do forgive my errors in the reviews i do have dyslexia but i will share my love with everyone
"SPOILER"
the whole invasion and how the Theives help defend the city leading up to the final battle
Everything you think of up to this book changes. The High Lord turns into the hero and helps save the City, everyones misunderstanding of the High Lord comes out and they praise him in the end.
"Good Story, but unsatisfying"
I liked this series and would recommend it. This book had the most action of the 3 however it was my least favorite. Despite the good writing, I the story left me unsatisfied.
"Great Trilogy"
A truly well thought out trilogy that I would recommend to any who are looking for a good book to listen to, I hope that you will see the characters in future books.
