    "Serial killer vs Dr. Scarpetta"

Kept suspense moving, enjoyed how it unraveled (with nothing stupid getting in the way). It was entertaining and well worth the listen. The DNA and computer technology was outdated, but not a problem, the character development was adequate and the writing was crime-novel level (no literary content, in fact she misuses laconic for sardonic).

    "C.J. Critt ruins it"
If you could sum up Postmortem in three words, what would they be?

    Great story line

How could the performance have been better?

It could have been read by someone else. C.J. Critt is terrible. I've read all the Scarpetta novels in print, and wanted to revisit them via audio book since I now have a long commute. After noticing that Critt narrates the first half of the entire series, I'm looking for other books. I can't possibly understand why this person was chosen to read these books. She should save her voice for reading to her own children, bless their tiny ears.

"Forgot how much I loved the old Scarpetta novels"

I just reread this book for the first time since its original publication in 1990 and I remember why I loved all the original Kay Scarpetta books. While the computer technology is WAY DATED now (!!), it was pretty advanced at the time and always made me go "wooowww" at the time. It was a fun journey to re-meet Kay, Marino, Wesley and Lucy in this First novel in a series that spanned 20+ years of my life.

Very distracting b/c the narrator sounds like she's smoking a Marlboro. Will avoid Criti in the future.

    "Gotta Love Scarpetta"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, but would recommend listening to this particular reading before listening to another artist's reading

Who was your favorite character and why?

Kay Scarpetta is more than likely my favorite character. I enjoy the fact that this book and that Ms. Cornwell's first few and last few books have been written from the perspective of Kay Scarpetta. It allows you the ability to get inside Kay's head. The books in the series that are written from the third person allow you to be an observer in the action of the book but the ones that Ms. Cornwell wrote from Scarpetta's perspective get you really into the action of the book. I also enjoy Pete Marino, from the perspective that, I am a man and he really portrays that male bravado that you might expect from a NYC police officer.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I can't say that I had a favorite scene but I do enjoy how Ms. Cornwell brings the action to a close, keeping you on your seat. I often find that I am trying to guess "whodunnit" and have yet to get it right.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes but I listen to my audiobooks in the car on my drive to work. The books are definitely long enough to keep you interested but not saying, when is the next exciting thing going to happen. I would have loved to been able to listen all in one sitting.

    "Great first in the series!"

I have been wanting to read the Scarpetta books for a long time because I love the Bones novels and another series that is similar so I figured I would like these as well. Being OCD about the way I read books of course I had to read them from the first book in order. After I got back into the mindframe of pre-computers/laptops being on every surface of my house and a cell phone in my pocket, I was able to appreciate the story because the old style computers really play a part in the story. I am hooked on Scarpetta and just got the second in the series.

This story is well told and I really enjoyed it all the way through. Sometimes with this type of novel it is easy to get bogged down by too many details but this book has a perfect balance of information vs. story. I can see that I will be a Patricia Cornwell fan from now on. The character, Kay Scarpetta, really grows on you and CJ Critt is the perfect voice for her. When I read this book in print that was not the voice I imagined but after hearing this book I realize that is the voice the author meant for her to have and now I can't imagine any other voice for her.

    "A little slow"
    Any additional comments?

The plot was passable, but the characters were a little superficial and the some of the character development didn't seem to go anywhere. The narrator could have varied accents for the different characters. It was not "an on the edge of your seat" mystery.
