Plum Island

Lion's Game was in the top five out my 700+ audible books on file. John Corey was back at his earlier brazen, witty. intuitive (lovable) self. This book was mentioned in two other De Mille books and I had wondered why it was not available in audible form. From my grateful heart,I enjoyed this book more than any other book I have listened to this year.

Good plot, and an interesting concept. But horrible absolutely horrible main character. In every situation, he is boorish and obnoxious. At first it was kinda funny, but then as the book wore on, his dialog became immature and dull. To everyone that John Corey met, he was an ass. I kept expecting to discover the interesting side of the main character. But it never happened. After a couple of hours, John Corey's dialog wasn't funny. Stopped after nine hours. Deleted from my library. Too bad, I would have liked to known how it came out.

I have been checking Audible for months hoping for Plum Island to be available. Yesterday my prayers were answered and I was happily listening to the original John Corey detective story, the first of five Demille books featuring this entertaining and amazing character, within 10 minutes. Scott Brick is John Corey. Plum Island is engaging and a great listen.

I have been hooked on Audio books for about 2 years now. I have already listened to ALL the John Corey books. Love them all and the personality. I get so dissapointed when I see there are earlier books in a series that arent available in Audible... Or even worse.. Abridged versions (chills).... 1/4 way into this book I had figured this was my favorite John Corey book to date!. I am about 30 min from the end of the book.

A good FUN story line, Not the same old same old plot... again. I cant believe John Corey was that sarcastic back THEN. Feels like he was more a smart ass then then in Lion's Game. I love thr Humor, the depth of the plot. No boring spots... One of my top 10 Audibles for sure..... and Thanks again for Scott Brick!!

The story itself was pretty good. It was a detective mystery style book and overall it wasn't bad. It had some really funny parts at the beginning, but the main characters brand of humor (making sarcastic remarks to every little comment) started to get old after Part 1 and then I just started getting annoyed with it after part 2. The middle of the book was rather boring and seemed to include some random events to fill a few more pages. The ending wasn't bad but it could have been better.


The biggest problem I have with this book is that the main character is your typical arrogant and self centered "Alpha Male" who can dish it out but can't take it and has to come up with a scarastic/smartass reply to everything. By the end of the book it's clear that John is a real ahole so this will be the first and last book that I read from Nelson DeMille.

This was my first read for this author and crime solver. I would probably not read this author again. I found the main character to be distracting in his vulgar descriptions of every woman, and interaction with any woman he encountered. Could have been a good story, I just didn't see the point of his diatribe.

The story line held my interest.

Sounded like an old time Chicago mobster. The voice and style was older than the placement of the story in time.

I am a fan of Nelson Demille and it doesn't hurt that one of the best narrators, Scott Brick reads most of his work online. I listened to most of the John Corey books before they released Plum Island to audio and it was referenced quite often by the author in retro comments. Really pleased with this one and happy I got it. You will not be disappointed if you get this one. Promise!

Nice listen...it's nice to go back to the first John Correy book. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a nice, long listen.

I enjoyed Plum Island and would give it another half star if it were an option. The story is good but a bit drawn out. I enjoyed the main character's humor but it too was a bit over the top. It was a good listen but not the type where you just can't wait to hear what happens next. It was entertaining but a bit long. I found the last main part where they were traveling by boat to the Plum Island during the hurricane way too long.

Overall I would say it was a good listen but not outstanding.

Not by the author. Yes by the reader.

Relief that it was over.

The protagonist!

The character is a cardboard cutout of a macho man. His flippancy and sexual hangups get in the way of a serviceable plot. I don't get how this poor caliber of writing finds publishers and readers. I only finished it because I'd started it. I rarely abandon books halfway through, but this one made me regret the money I spent on it. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone I liked or respected.
