Daniel hides Luce at Shoreline, a school on the rocky California coast with unusually gifted students: Nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels and humans.

At Shoreline, Luce learns what the Shadows are, and how she can use them as windows to her previous lives. Yet the more Luce learns, the more she suspects that Daniel hasn’t told her everything. He’s hiding something—something dangerous. What if Daniel’s version of the past isn’t actually true? What if Luce is really meant to be with someone else?

"Great plot, but a lot of filler."

I love the idea behind this story, but just like with Fallen i find myself wondering, "Um, can we just get to the point already?" The story is full of fluffy little moments which are cool for first books, but kinda tedious when you have been waiting a year for the next installment. Great plot, love the new characters and the explanations behind last book's villains. It gets exciting towards the last couple chapters and sets it up nicely for the next book in the series.

I am a sucker for a good love triangle and this story has it again. I recommend picking it up if you liked fallen, but if you are impatient you might want to preview it.

    Narrator: Awesome

    "Enjoyed but left me wanting"

This book was wonderful with the suspense necessary to get the reader completely involved in the story. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Having read the first in the series, I was excited to see how the story continued and it did not disappoint having plenty of action and drama. However, the build up through the whole story did not come full circle and the ending just left the reader feeling like they had not received the payoff that they had invested the time to receive. Obviously, a middle book in a series,....this author seems to think that leaving the reader hanging is a way to make sure they come back for more. I believe that a story should wrap itself up leaving intrigue to get the reader to read the next book. The sudden ending, left me wanting more, but unsatisfied that I hadn't been rewarded with any of the "promises" I felt the author had set up.

    "Well Done!"

I thoroughly enjoyed the character in Fallen and now Torment. It has been a pleasure to see the development of the previous characters and the introduction of new characters and how they may influence the former characters. I find myself torment and am not sure if I am routing for the relationship to work out or not. The ending leaves just enough to have you wanting more...next stop: Passion.

"This story is addictive just suspend pretensions"
What made the experience of listening to Torment the most enjoyable?

It is fun and fantasy no reality it lets me disconnect from the troubles of my life. I am a romantic and thinking that everything will work out in the end is what I want.

What other book might you compare Torment to and why?

Of course Twilight and City of Bones

    Which scene was your favorite?

The final battle at then end when Luce decides that she might love Daniel but she needs to find herself first.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No it didn't make me cry or laugh but I did worry for the lives of some of my fav characters.

    Any additional comments?

Just listen and loose yourself from your worries, like your dead end job, partner with cancer, house that needs to be vacumed, lawn to mow, weeds to pull. Escape!!

I love audible. I discovered it as a solution to my long drive (30mi each way) back and forth to work. This is my down time after work.

    Story
"A necessary bridge to the series."

I enjoyed Torment and, having read further into the series, I see it as a necessary step to the events that follow.

I was impressed that the author didn't follow the normal pattern of blind "true love." As Luce searches and struggles to understand her love for Daniel, the listener gathers much needed information to understand the overall story being presented.

Again, Kate lets the listener see very clearly from Luce's point of view. This is one of her strongest talents as an author. The cryptic responses and actions of Daniel and other characters (like him), really start to drive you insane...just as they to Luce. This story is definitely told from her perspective and gives validation to much of the uncertainty she feels throughout the book.

The action is divided up among this book much more evenly than the last. You will be entertained through most of it, although there are still many slow moments that might test your patience.

There are no happy endings in Torment. It is a cliff-hanger and leaves you feeling like you read a prologue. The real journey is about to begin in the next novel.

    "Great Follow-up"
    Any additional comments?

Torment (Fallen #2) is a strong follow-up to Fallen (Fallen #1). In it, we are reunited with our favorite characters (Luce, Daniel, and Cameron) and are introduced to several new ones (Miles and Shelby), who are memorable enough for us to long to see - much - more of them in future books.

Torment (Fallen #2)'s greatness lies in the way the readers are gradually and gently introduced to Luce's abilities, her new world, and her and Daniel's history. There's is one filled with love, passion, and grief.

As with Fallen (Fallen #1), I'm constantly perplexed about which characters to trust and love and which ones I should distrust and hate. I'm completely sympathetic to Luce's dilemmas when it comes to particular conflict. At the same time, I enjoyed the level of suspense creating by the unknown because it makes this story more amazing and tender and tumultuous.

For those looking for a young adult series that can be read by almost anyone, the Fallen series is for you. It's filled with love and action. It rises above other stories by proving great books don't have to be consumed with sex and profanity in order to get the world's attention. For that, I applaud Lauren Kate.

A bunch of times I found myself very bored with this book. I liked the first one better. I hope the next one will be so much interesting than this one. If the third one doesn't get any better I will stop listening/reading to this series. My time is too precious and there are a lot of more interesting choices out there!
