Crisis

Robin Cook's foray into legal mystery was a failure. His courtroom diaglogue and judicial rulings didn't seem plausible. These legal proceedings went on in excruciating detail to make sure that it was clear (for the obtuse) that it was a hopeless predicament. It made me wonder several times what purpose they served to advance the plot or prepare for the conclusion. The ending was sudden and did not answer questions about why certain events had occurred during the story (how does a narcissus suddenly become a sociopath?). It seemed as though the author had rewritten the ending in response to a deadline or at the insistence of an editor. All of this was made worse by an epilogue

Unlike his other novels, I find books starring Cook's Jack Stapleton character have a slow, rather boring start. This is no exception, but it manages to deliver halfway through the book. Very repetitive at first, then 2 hours into the book the action starts and a well-defined action plot seals the end. However, regardless of how hard I try, the Laurie character annoys me and that is the spoiler for me.

I, too, ignored the reviews and was glad I did. I had listened to previous books of Robin Cook, read by George Guidall, and knew how good they were. And this one did not disappoint me. Even though he may not be totally up on legal prcedure and terminology -- for example, the judge saying "counsels" instead of "counsel" -- I ignored such MINOR things and thoroughly enjoyed the suspense. It will definitely be worth the listen.

I am only about 2 hours into this book, and the reader has worn out his welcome! Slow, droning delivery such as one might expect in a commercial for cereal with extra fiber. The various characters are read so amateurishly -- added to the typical Cook adjective overkill, it's enough to make you crazy. Having paid for this thing, I will try to persevere, but I really meant the title -- usually my Audible keeps me aware and happy during my commute -- tonight I ended up actually turning the damn book off. Caveat emptor!

I got what I wanted from this book--nothing too challenging, but a nicely paced medical thriller. I've read Robin Cook before, and this one wasn't one of his best as far as I'm concerned, but I think I got my money's worth, as I was definitely engaged & entertained.

after reading somewhat negative reviews of this book, i worried about my choice, as my audible choices spend many miles entertaining me on my time on the highway. Sometimes you have to have a little faith in your favorite authors, this story had it all, suspense, comedy, unpredictable moments, it was most wonderful. I don't want to spoil the experience for you, but you won't regret the time you spend with CRISIS!!! If you've read Robin Cook, you won't be disappointed and you'll meet some old friends!!

My first with Mr. Cook, and it was wonderful. He does an excellent job in character development. The story flows like water. You'll enjoy it.

This book missed the mark in so many ways. The pace was slow -- even with a excellent reader. Some of the main characters were so inconsistent that the narrative lacked conviction. Why did they do what they did? Why didn't they do other things? I have always enjoyed this author's books before, but this was a huge disappointment.

This was not up to the par of his previous novels. Don;t waste your time and money(credit).

It was pretty entertaining. I believe this is one of his better books. It left you hanging in the end.
