She tries to convince everyone she's fine - despite the shadows she sees forming around another patient and the urge to scream that comes burbling up again and again.
Everyone thinks she's crazy. Everyone except Lydia, that is. Another patient with some special abilities....

"Prologue"
This book doesn't stand on it's own and would have been much better as a prologue in My Soul to Take. I rated it high because it is a great prologue which explains much of what happens in My Soul to Take and am very glad that I read it first.
Paranormal-urban fantasy book lover!
"Nice introduction into the Series."
This is a must read if you are going to read the series. Read this book first so the rest of the series makes sense. It's a great backstory.
Kaylee and Em.
This is a great series and I am glad I bought the series. I am definitely going to read and re read these books.
Making the world better one review at a time.
"It gave me a creepy Twilight Zone feeling..."
During a panic attack she has at the mall, teenager Kaylee claws her throat raw in an effort to stop screaming. This extreme reaction lands her in the local psychiatric ward, where she is under careful observation by doctors and family alike. The reader is given the sense that there is more to Kaylee's panic attacks - and subsequent screaming - than there appears.
This piece is a prequel to Rachel Vincent's Soul Screamers series, but it is strong enough to stand on its own. An ideal reader will buy the rest of the series to find out just what is behind these panic attacks that haunt Kaylee. I may just buy the series myself. This piece of writing moved me. When the eerie music began to play at the end of the story, it gave me a creepy Twilight Zone feeling that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. To evoke that kind of reaction means the writer did her job well.
One small complaint....Kaylee kept talking about her "jaws." She mentioned her "jaws" at least twice if not three times. I didn't realize humans had more than one jaw. Perhaps I will google this and find that I am wrong, but as of this writing I believe I am right, so the "jaws" thing really bugged me.
Overall a worthwhile read, whether you plan to finish the series or not. Since this story is available for FREE, you have no excuse not to download it and enjoy the listen.
"Great Story :)"
This was the first book I downloaded and listened to, and I was not disappointed. The writing is clear and concise and keeps you wanting to hear more. And there were some bits that had me giggling, too, even though this was supposed to be a mystery/suspense/thriller novel. My only gripe is that it ended too soon (for me) - but I guess that's just to make you want to read/listen to the other 2 books :)
"Not For Me"
I "liked" this book enough to give it a second listen (in hopes that it would spark up some interest for me) but not enough to buy the second book. The writing was okay, not a whole lot to get excited about, but I thought the characters could do with a bit more meat added to them. The main character just seemed like too much of a whiner to deal with and she never had a sensible solution to any of her situations. The best friend was tolerable, but I couldn't get a good sense of any of the others or what they were like. All in all it's not the greatest book ever written.
"Soul to lose"
I probably wouldn't recommend this book. It isn't that great of a story, maybe if their we're more added to it, making the girls problems have a solution and more of a meaning why they happen. But if someone wanted to listen to a short story to pass the time I guess this would be the one,
The ending was the most disappointing.. She wasn't helped and she was leaving while the other girl was suffering.
The aunt was the best performance by the narrator.
It wasn't good and it want totally bad, so I'm neutral on if its worth the listen. It would have been much better if their had been more to it. But it gives you something to think about,
"my soul to lose"
yes i would because it is a unique and really good series
the moment when lydia took her pain/scream away so kaylee could go free
she brings out the characters in the story really well
im sooo glad this prequel book was free because after i listened to it i went and got all of them
I like to read a mixture of non-fiction (nutrition and memoirs) and fantasy. I use audible for more exciting and lighthearted reads as I still prefer to read a hard copy book (and can't stand ebooks for some reason). At any given time, I'm usually reading 3 or more books.
"Good way to pass 2 hours"
I downloaded this because it was free, and it's in the genre I like to escape to - teen fantasy. It's basically a preview of an entire series, which is a good way to see if you would want to purchase the first book in the series. I found the descriptions intriguing and the storyline different than any I've read before, so it was worth it. I will probably check out the series at some point in the future.

"A Must Read for all Urban Fantasy lovers"
This prequel to the Soul Screamers series was offered as a free audiobook. I'd never read anything by Rachel Vincent so I thought I'd check out the free version before I spend money on the series. I'm so glad I did. I devoured this audiobook in about 24 hours (pesky work got in the way) then went on to buy the first book in the series. I'm two thirds of the way through that one and can't wait to finish it tonight. Definitely a series I would recommend to anyone that enjoys urban fantasy.
