Publisher's Summary

Dear Listener: Impulse is an exciting mystery of suspense that first came out in 1990. I’ve done a bit of rewriting and updated it.

Now, I want you to get ready. Rafaella Holland, a Pulitzer Prize winner, now a journalist for the Boston Tribune, discovers from her comatose mother’s journals that her "real" father is Dominick Giovanni, a wealthy, very powerful arms dealer who lives and runs his operations from his own private island compound in the Caribbean. She wants revenge for what he did to her mother. She wants to gather enough proof to send him to prison for the rest of his miserable life.

Marcus Devlin manages the resort on Giovanni’s Island, a private playground for the wealthy and powerful. He’s very good at what he does, but Rafaella wonders if he’s really what he seems. Then someone tries to kill Dominick Giovanni. Who? Then someone tries to kill Rafaella and Marcus. Why?

As Rafaella and Marcus grow closer, events threaten to spin out of control when their small world on Giovanni’s Island starts to implode.

Do try Impulse if you missed it when it first came out. Let me know if you figure out who is trying to kill Giovanni before you reach the end.

    "Excelllent Adventure in Listening"

For me this was an excellent, unexpected, suspense filled audio book experience. The characters were well defined, the narrators amazing. No cardboard cut out characters here.
The male villians in this are truly creepy. Not the usual "brutal, obvious villians you may hear in other books but these are the kinds of rich, mobster types that I sincerely hope I never meet. They have no remorse and totally justify how they treat women. (Nope it may not be what you think). This had everything, a strong female lead (like this is a movie or a play, sounded like it to me) good romance, sexy scenes, action and adventure.

If you enjoy staying on the edge of your seat....listen to this one.

    "Not a compelling novel"
What would have made Impulse better?

I thought I was getting a FBI novel that has a story and the sex parts are minimum and not one of the romance-smutty novels. Not pleased with the book. It was not a compelling story line. I was not engaged. It was easy to say I can stop listening and call it a waste of money.

"Catherine Coulter Never Lets Me Down!"

Catherine Coulter never lets me down. Whenever I've read/listened to all my regular favorite authors I KNOW I can read/listen to ANY Catherine Coulter book and be saisfied! "Impulse" is another one that is excellent. I love the readers and the way they seem to interact and the story is enthralling! I need an island vacation now too!

    "Too nasty for me"

I don't mind romance, but this book had too much detailed sex for me. The frequent and detailed sex episodes took away from the story. I have listened to all Catherine Coulters books and was caught off guard expecting this one to be similar. I didn't finish listening to this book because I didn't like it.

    "Not Coulter best."
What did you like best about Impulse? What did you like least?

The performance was poor and kept the story from being enjoyable.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The "who-dunit" part was great. Kept me guessing to the very end.

Would you be willing to try another one of Renee Raudman and Paul Costanzo ’s performances?

Maybe Renee Raudman but not Paul Costanzo.

Was Impulse worth the listening time?

    Not really.

    "Enjoyed it Better By Reading"

I thought it was good book when I read it a few years back--it was suspenseful. Now, not as good. I say it consistently in my reviews, the narrator can make or break a review. Renee Raudman (RR), very, very good, Paul Costanzo, not enough expression. Maybe it was because he read it in the "third person"--I think that they probably need a little acting ability--he has a good voice, but not the acting. RR did.

    "Just OK."

The plot of the book was pretty good. The narration was choppy between both the male and the female narrators. Made it hard to keep my attention.
