Publisher's Summary

After her father loses the family fortune in an insider-trading scheme, single mom Parker Welles is faced with some hard decisions. First order of business: go to Gideon's Cove, Maine, to sell the only thing she now owns-a decrepit house in need of some serious flipping. When her father's wingman, James Cahill, asks to go with her, she's not thrilled . . . even if he is fairly gorgeous and knows his way around a toolbox.

Having to fend for herself financially for the first time in her life, Parker signs on as a florist's assistant and starts to find out who she really is. Maybe James isn't the glib lawyer she always thought he was. And maybe the house isn't the only thing that needs a little TLC.

"This is a lovely, passionate, interesting story"

I really enjoyed this story. It wasn't rushed and didn't seem slow to me. It has that lovely build of passion instead of immediate gratification. I enjoyed Catch of the Day also....this seemed a little more indepth story to me. All the characters were interesting.
Narration is personal, and this is not a narrator I love to listen to but it is tollerable.

    "Great story and horrific narration."

I picked this title because I had just listened to Higgins' Catch of the Day, and truly enjoyed it. I should have given the excerpt a careful listen, but I didn't. Xe Sands, who narrated Catch of the Day, would have been a much better choice. Eyre's voice would be appropriate for some work, but I felt like I was listening to a 75 year old with a warbley voice, and could not take it. Of course, it could just be me and some people might love Eyre's voice with this novel, but I felt like I was listening to a great grandmother instead of a 35 year old woman. I bought the ebook instead, and am much happier for having done so.

    Story
"Not as good as other books by the same author."
Would you try another book from Kristan Higgins and/or Justine Eyre?

I probably would try another book from both. I "listened" to Catch of the Day and enjoyed it very much. Was disappointed in the storyline for this one.

Would you ever listen to anything by Kristan Higgins again?

Yes I would listen to another book by Kristan.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Actually, I liked the narrator. I though she was the best part of the book. I liked the different voices she used for different charcters.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

I think the story had potential, but I thought it fell short in many aspects. Especially in areas regarding Nicky and James' family. It also lacked the humor that can make a romance irresistible.

    Any additional comments?

Try listening to Catch of the Day first. Not only will it familiarize you with the characters, it is the better of the two books.

    Story
    "holy rollers overdone"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

yes....no mention of holy rollers whatsoever....it brought down the tone of the whole book...if we have an inner self talking to us we usually dont have such derision for our thoughts....after all its our self conscious thoughts and inner common sense speaking..in her case it was the characters of a book she created that made her a popular author, much to her disgust.VERY damn annoying having the main character talk to them throughout the book...and they talked back!!! She would have sounded so much better without sounding so insane....and what made it worse was that they were characters from a book the main character wrote that was a so called popular seller?? Dont know how the hell why...or even why they made the main character an author...she is a privileged woman reduced to having to fend for herself when her nomadic estranged father traded all her inheritance away and subsequently was sent to jail for his crimes.....hmm it could have had some merit as an interesting plot if it wasnt for the constant rants of insanity...and the loopy dad..

What was most disappointing about Kristan Higgins’s story?

see above, stupid holy rollers..(angels on skates) weird...

What three words best describe Justine Eyre’s performance?

lovely thanks....a highlight to the story

Could you see Somebody to Love being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    no no no...an hell no...

    "Always a good one!"

Kristan Higgins has become one of my favorite authors, by far. I find my self laughing and crying in just about all her stories. Her heros are always the best. Her stories are always filled with so much entertainment that I can never put them down. This is no exception. If I was to tell the author anything it would be to have more dialog between the hero and heroine only because its always so good. You won't go wrong with any of Higgins books.
