The maddeningly endless dialog of worthless detail that has little to do with the story.

The basic story had merit, but the lack of action and the detail ruins the basic story.

The Kate Burton performance was excellent. She handled many voices, moods and nuances with interest and skill.

Excellent coveage of the pathology of death, poisoning, autopsy.

I considered the story a poor use of my time, but I found it hard to stop listening to the book. The listening activity was more of a challenge to finish then an intense interest in the story.

The book is typical Cornwell. Great plot, entertaining writing. But they clearly had problems recording, or went back and added words/sentences after the fact. Happens three times just in the first two chapters. Sounds like it was edited on someone's laptop. Thumbs down for technical chops.

I've been looking forward to the release of this book, especially since its release on audibles came at the same time as the printed book's release.

I found some issues with the book - as people have been saying for awhile with this series of books, the plots have been becoming less and less believable. This book is certainly no exception that that. Also, the book picked up where the last book left off, and it seems like there are some time table issues with it. There are references to the end of her nieces relationship, an attempted murder from the last book, and the goings on in this book that just don't add up. Not to mention the fact that Scarpetta acts like she has only been in a near death experience once, and of course it has happened many times. Suddenly, she is affected by it more than a year later? or was it less than a year? hard to tell!

Finally, I've really enjoyed the narration of Cornwell's books by C.J. Critt and Kate Reading, but Kate Burton's monotoned performance makes Scarpetta seem depressed and synical, at best. Scarpetta's sassiness and wittiness are lost when put in Burton's hands.

This story lacks any originality. It is a rewrite of bits and parts of other books with names and places changed. Only a 2 year old couldn't figure this story out in the first couple of chapters. The best sleeping pill ever written.

Not a P. Cornwell book.

Unlike some of the other reviewers, I found the plot and characterization acceptable, but not outstanding. After reading all of the other Scarpetta novels (but having never listened to one), I can say that there are some redeeming qualities to some of the characters, and the plot was intriguing, although sometimes confusing, as she is concerned with three different cases that span more than a decade.

The narration, however, is one of the worst I've encountered in any of the dozens, if not hundreds, of audiobooks I've enjoyed. The woman's voice is a monotone, and as another reviewer pointed out, makes Scarpetta sound depressed and cynical, with none of the bright features of her personality. She consistently mispronounces words, suggesting that she is simply reading the text "cold" and has not studied it at all. Barely worth a credit. I'll certainly not buy any more books by this narrator.

Kate Burton does a good job with the narration. The story was interesting and I must say the ending took me by surprise I had a different character line up as the killer. What bothered me the most was the constant repetition in the form of dialog through out the book. Repeating an item twice may be okay to make the point you are going back to re-evaluate your findings but to do it over and over again was annoying. I would like to have more about Lucy in the next story and more action. Overall I think this was a better book than Cornwell's last book "Port Mortuary".

She should stick with Kate Reading to narrate her books. This woman puts me to sleep. She never changes her voice or the tone. I can't get into the story. This is worst Scarpetta yet and I'm soooooooooooo disappointed. I had looked forward to it for such a long time. It barely gets one star in my opinion. I've read all of her books and have never been this dsiappointed.

It started off well but died in the middle the author just did too much explaining and I kept losing interest.

I like the books Pat's written in 1st person and I enjoy Kate Burtons way of reading. It makes me feel just like I am in Kay's head. The story is a continuation of her last book which helps give that one a nice finish.

I like when Lucy is a part of the story and Marino is not such an ass too.

I will try this one more time, but if it's as bad as Port Mortuary...This will be my last time to donate my time and money to a once great writer. I hope she listened to the last reviews that were overwhelmingly horrible and made the necessary changes. Writers need to keep it fresh, make changes, keep it edgy, not NOT GO OFF THE DEEP END into a psychotic haze.
