Publisher's Summary

Craig Johnson’s rough-and-tumble hero Walt Longmire is quickly becoming a fan-favorite and a critical success.

Here Walt has his hands full as greedy land developers employ shady, violent methods to reverse their fortunes in recession-racked Wyoming, where the owners of a multi-million dollar development of ranchettes want to get rid of the adjacent junk-yard. When a severed thumb is discovered in the yard, conflicts erupt, and Walt Longmire, his trusty companion Dog, life-long friend Henry Standing Bear, and deputies Santiago Saizarbitoria and Victoria Moretti find themselves in a small town that feels more and more like a high plains pressure cooker.

What the Critics Say

“It’s the scenery—and the big guy standing in front of the scenery—that keeps us coming back to [these] lean and leathery mysteries.” (New York Times Book Review)

"At Last! What took so long to get this book??"

I'm not a technical expert but it's true that Craig Johnson's books are closer to Tony Hillerman's stories than they are a procedural manual. His characters are rich and colorful. They get into situations that are laugh-out-loud funny and others that are touching. The story takes a lot of twists and turns that kept me wondering "now what?"
Johnson's books are character driven and I can't wait to hear what happens in the next book.
Of course, George Guidall gives another perfect performance as narrator. It's a great listen

I loved this book!Always looking forward to the new Craig Johnson sense of humor, and this was as enjoyable
as the rest in the series. Sorta like "small town sheriff meets the Beverly HillBillys". Loved the characters. The only small disappointment was Henry, Walt's friend didnt have a large part in this book. but the other characters made up for the lost. Looking forward to the next adventure.

    "Continues a tradition of excellence"

A completely engaging tale with wonderfully drawn characters and unpredictable, yet totally human, flaws that lead to the most unexpected twists and turns. I love this series and this reader - George Guidall totally captures the essence of Sheriff Longmire, Mr. Henry Standing Bear, and the incorrigible Vic Moretti, as well as that of Wyoming itself. Makes me want to return to the state of my birth.

    "Another Winner"

Loved this. My only complaint with the Longmire stories is that I wish they wouldn't end. Craig Johnson knows his characters, and he knows storytelling. Plenty of wry humor worked in throughout. I have truly come to love these characters over the 4-or-so books I've listened to so far.

And what can one say about George Guidall? I have never heard anyone better...and he is truly at his peak with these characters....he simply OWNS these voices and brings tremendous value with his voice. I actually found this book (I missed it when it came out) because I was searching for more Guidall readings. He is the master. Too bad he wasn't selected for the new Brad Thor book as well. I had wanted to buy that one, too...but the guy chosen just couldn't pass muster with me, even for the length of the demo.

Excellent: I suggest you read all the "Walt Longmire" books. This book has the same reader as all the other books, and he adds to the story.
I give it a strong recomendation

    "Walt is back!!"

I love this author's stories, the pictures he paints (I almost froze to death reading "Junkyard") and most of all his characters, all brought to life by the wonderful narration of George Guidall. This book seemed to have even more humor (e.g. Walt's self-effacing wit) than the others and I thoroughly enjoyed it as well as the surprise ending.
Long live Walt Longmire and I add long live Guidall's Walt Longmire.
One extra note - I don't have a clue what another reader's criticism about Johnson's technical knowledge is all about. Good grief! I am sure I'm like many other Audible listeners who are not offended by this.
It's a great listen - highly recommend "Junkyard Dogs" (cool title)

    "Craig and George!"

It just doesn't get any better. Will Patton as Robicheaux is good. Mantegna as Spenser. Buy,enjoy. Don't worry about that guy's review saying we should care whether a Luger had 5 or 9 rounds etc.

    "These recordings are priceless."

I was thrilled to see the latest installation. The combination of the writing with the narration continues to be something special. Not much more to say, really...

    "Wonderful"

All the positive reviews tell all you need to know. I can add nothing more. Craig Johnson may not be as well known as John Grisham, but he shuld be! His books are wonderfully exciting wth real characters (that are not indiscriminantly jumping into bed all the time). And George Guidall is just the best narrator for this author. The combination is unbeatable.

I hear voices. But maybe that's because there's always an Audible book in my ear.

    "I love these books"

I read all kinds of things that inform and educate me. These Walt Longmire books are a whole different category ... pure enjoyment. For a first listen, or for a car trip, or walking the dog, or weeding the garden -- really, anything -- these are perfect. George Guidall is such a wonderful choice for the narration. I have but one complaint ... I wish they were longer.
