"okayish... a bit dull"
The British novels I love are packed with dry humor, sharp observations of life, witty asides. This one is not. It's just a simple little romantic plot whose wryest lines appear in the first few pages, so you can actually listen to them for free and save yourself the download. Still, I give it 3 stars because it did pass some otherwise boring time fairly enjoyably while I did my chores.

"Not A Good Listen!!"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?Not me.
What was most disappointing about Madeleine Wickham’s story?Not enough story to keep me interested. Yes, you already know how it ends before you start it but it would have been nice for the storyline could have been more intent, funny, compassionate, etc.

I like the british sensibility, and was introduced to the Forsyte Saga through audible ... loved it! I happen to also like Chinese writers, but they are not well represented yet at audible. Looking to follow readers with similar tastes ...

"below average for wickham/kinsella"
Madeline Wickham had clearly not hit her stride when she wrote this one. She does have a quirky imagination which might have saved the book were it not for the disappointing narration (too loud at times, and too sing songy for my taste). I'd skip this one. Wedding Girl is a better choice for this author.

"Okay Story that Reads Like a Play"
This book read more like a play than a novel. While there were a few times the prose was beautiful enough for me to rewind a sentence, it was very dialogue-heavy and the scenes took place in a small number of settings.. Also, much like a play, the character development seemed a bit deliberate, as if you simply must see the character change via dialogue in 2 hours.

"Second try at Wickham, still disappointed"
I am a HUGE fan of all Sophie Kinsella’s books. This is the second Madeleine Wickham book I have tried, and I didn’t like either of them.
