Publisher's Summary

Were you aware that there are, hidden in the streets of Brighton, 12 ancient constellations, like the Hangleton Hound and the Bevendean Bat? Well, there are, and on each one hangs a tale, a tale so strange that only The Lad himself, that inveterate spinner of tales and talker of the toot, Hugo Rune, can get to the bottom of them. And he'd better do it quickly, because if he doesn't solve the dozen mysteries before the year is out, that'll be the end of the world as we know it.

    "A good car listen."

I agree with the other comment about dougless adams - he's very similar and probably more "pythonesque". Off the wall fun with good repeat gags. I am glad this is published as I missed the radio series. Thanks Audible - a good selection.

    "Delightfully silly!"

Well-written, well-acted, and laugh-out-loud funny! I loved every minute of it. Take one part 'Nero Wolfe and Archie', one part 'Monty Python', and one part 'golden age adventure comic', mix well, and garnish with dry British sarcasm. Delicious!

Be aware that the last 40 minutes are outtakes and interviews, which are also quite entertaining if you know to expect them; no, there isn't a secret 'nother episode, it's the Director's Cut extras.

    "Great Fun"

The radio adaption of Robert Rankin's Brightonomicon is simply brilliant. In 13 episodes Hugo Rune and his trusted acolyte Rizla, who can't remember his past, try to solve mindbogglingly difficult conundrums to prevent the end of the world. But be warned, there is Spaniel involvement.
Fans of Robert Rankin's work shouldn't miss this adaption as it works perfectly as a play.

"Great Performance, but the story was a little flat"

I love Rankin, no doubt. However, the story here was a bit lacking. He didn't have the humor in this one that I'm accustomed to from him. It was entertaining, but somewhat repetitive in places. What got me to finish this was the performances - fantastic! I love David Warner, so that was a definite plus. I wish he'd done more, though. Rupert Degas was fantastic, too. If you get this, just don't expect a gripping story, but it's worth a listen.

    "Nonsensical amusement"

Similar to Douglas Adams, except that Douglas Adams's books mostly had plots hidden away under the jokes and bizarre characters. If you remove the jokes and characters from this, there's nothing left. But the jokes are good, and the radio production (with a cast of several skilled voice actors, music, &c.) is outstanding.
