From Gene Robinson, the Bishop of the Diocese of New Hampshire in the Episcopal Church, the first openly gay person elected (in 2003) to the historic episcopate and the world's leading religious spokesperson for gay rights and gay marriage, comes a groundbreaking book that lovingly and persuasively makes the case for same-sex marriage. It establishes a common-sense, reasoned, religious argument, made by someone who holds the religious text of the Bible to be holy and sacred and the ensuing two millennia of church history to be relevant to the discussion.
For the author, same-sex marriage is a very personal issue: He has been married to his partner for the last four years of a 23-year relationship.

"Robinson grounds his argument in favor of gay rights and gay marriage in the Bible that he loves. . . . Inevitably a controversy stirrer despite the devout tone." ---Library Journal

"He nailed it!"
It is honest and real, but written lovingly. It is not judgmental or hateful toward those who might have an opposing position.
It is very informative and detailed. He talks about the history of the movement, lots of information (for those who apparently knew nothing, such as myself!), and biblical basics for supporting the LGBT community. I thought I was supportive, but you need to KNOW about the issues in order to really be supportive. Now I feel like I can better support family members who are struggling to tell others about their preferences, and begin to advocate for them in the community. Before I read this book, I did not really even know the major issues with allowing civil unions versus marriage. Now I know, and I am telling everyone to read this book!
