Sunshine State trivia buff Serge A. Storms loves eliminating jerks and pests. His drug-addled partner Coleman loves cartoons. Hot stripper Sharon Rhodes loves cocaine, especially when purchased with rich dead men's money. On the other hand, there's Sean and David, who love fishing and are kind to animals - and who are about to cross paths with a suitcase filled with $5 million in stolen insurance money. Serge wants the suitcase. Sharon wants the suitcase. Coleman wants more drugs... and the suitcase. In the meantime, there's murder by gun, Space Shuttle, Barbie doll, and Levi's 501s. In other words, welcome to Tim Dorsey's Florida - where nobody gets out unscathed and untanned!

"Its a Mad Mad Mad Florida!"
I would never Mistake a Tim Dorsey Novel for a Hiaasen! If anyone does they are not paying attention. Mr. Dorseys characterizations are so wild and wacky they could be real, but only if you believe that truth is stranger than fiction.
If you are offended easily or dont like creative killings, this is not for you.
If you have said "i have a sense of humor and this is not funny", this is not for you.
If you believe that freedom of speech should only go so far, this is not for you.
Any or all of Tim Dorseys books will make just about anybody with a real sense of humor smile and cringe and spit milk out of your nose while you say i can see that as a newspaper story.
59 year old software engineer, playwright, and novellest. I have purchased hundreds of titles from Audible.
"I tried to like it"
I really did try to like it. I tried to laugh off the characters. I tried to wait for the author to start tying things together. But after about two hours I gave up.
The first two hours of the book is a shaggy dog story filled with the most amoral people you can imagine. No, wait ... I could not have imagined people that amoral. The book just finally wore me down ... it wasn't funny enough to hold my attention, and those characters were just soooo depressing.
The narrator was clear, but his performance had all the warmth of a 1960 educational film.
I realize I'm in the minority with regards to this book... but if you can make it all the way thru the book then you are a better man than I.
"Stick With Carl Hiaasen..."
I don't know; I didn't find it particularly funny. Carl Hiaasen is light years ahead of Tim Dorsey.
I'd have to finish this one first, but this book has a thin plot and is very disjointed with alot of filler.
Characters seem okay, we just need a story for these characters. Alot of characterization, but no story.
It had potential; i think the author is trying too hard to outdo Hiaasen. Just didn't work for me.
To correct a review from someone else, Carl Hiaasen's first book was written in 1986. This book was written in 1999. Clearly Dorsey is the copycat here, unfortunately not a very good one. Tried to like this book--just didn't care what happened anymore after 6 hrs of listening. The story just drags on and on; probably could have cut this book in half and it might've been enjoyable.
"Love Tim Dorsey's Books!"
I often wonder, as I listen to these books... What kind of crazy, sick, twisted, warped, thoughts must be rolling around in Tim Dorsey's head on a daily basis. To come up with all those highly inventive ways to kill. Does he just walk the aisles of Home Depot for inspiration?!? Serge is just a moral enforcer of epic proportion, you gotta love the guy! I really hope Triggerfish Twist is released soon! Thanks for all the great books! Highly Recommended!
"An Attempt at Humor Falls Short"
This sequence of missteps from very unfortunate characters, I think, is supposed to be funny. Save your time. The plot is limited, the characters are transparent.
Unlikely.
Not at all.
It would be easier to determine which one or two to keep.
"Florida Roadkill-not so good"
I was hoping for John McDonald or Karl Hiaasen quality and was very dissappointed
Story is just too much sleaze. Characters are ALL sickos with no meaning.
Narrator is good! Lots of feeling and easy to listen to.
Many, the grossness just goes on and on.
"Horrible"
Anything.
This was one of the worst books I've listened too. It sucks. The story is so convoluted and unconnected that it is impossible to keep track of. I was at least 2 hours into it before I realized there was a story. There are lots of characters who have no relationship or input to the story. The attempt at character development for the main characters is minimal at best. Although there are some funny scenes and comments, I have no idea how people like this book. Although it is violent, that didn't bug me. Don't waste your money.
"He is no Carl Hiassen"
Introduction of new charachters muddled the story.
Yes
Overall it was a quirky Florida tale. I think Hiassen does it much better.
"Dorsey does it again"
humor
Carl Hiaasen both make me laugh our loud and I live in fl.
makes them come alive
yes
I love my audiobooks! Great for traveling.
"Hilarious!"
One of the best books I've listened to so far!
At first it can be a little confusing. The author introduces you to all these different characters. But by the end of the book, you see how they are all connected.
It's a book where the bad guys get what's coming to them.
The narration was excellent. Tim Dorsey has a new fan!
