With the Beauty Killer Gretchen Lowell locked away behind bars once again, Archie Sheridan—a Portland police detective and nearly one of her victims—can finally rest a little easier. Meanwhile, the rest of the city of Portland is in crisis. Heavy rains have flooded the Willamette River, and several people have drowned in the quickly rising waters. Or at least that’s what they thought until the medical examiner discovers that the latest victim didn’t drown: She was poisoned before she went into the water.
Soon after, three of those drownings are also proven to be murders. Portland has a new serial killer on its hands, and Archie and his task force have a new case.
Reporter Susan Ward is chasing this story of a new serial killer with gusto, but she’s also got another lead to follow for an entirely separate mystery: The flooding has unearthed a skeleton, a man who might have died more than 60 years ago, the last time Portland flooded this badly, when the water washed away an entire neighborhood and killed at least fifteen people. With Archie following the bizarre trail of evidence and evil deeds to catch a killer and possibly regain his life, and Susan Ward close behind, Chelsea Cain—one of today’s most talented suspense writers—launches the next installment of her best-selling series with an electric thriller.

"Poor narration - stopped halfway through"
I couldn't even finish listening. The reader read with such a monotone that I kept losing interest. I'm pretty sure it isn't the story since I've loved Chelsea Cain's other books.
Not with same narrator.
NO WAY!!
No
"Good. Not great but good."
There is no Gretchen in this book. And to those who have read the first 3 that will be disappointing. But most disappointing is that they changed narrators and I personally didn't love the new one. I am looking forward to the next installment and hope that she writes Gretchen in to the story line. Still worth listening to though!
"This narrator is fantastic"
The narrator of the prose is wonderful. The story is classic Chelsea Cain. Couldn't wait to read the next book.....
The plot was a good CC story.
She is a wonderful narrator. She is melodic and almost hypnotic. She is the best of the best.....
"the night season"

I love to listen to books while driving and I do a lot of driving!
"Not that great"
Just wasn't the same narrator as the 1st 3 books so made it hard to believe characters.....story line was weak
"a new direction"
yes, there's no Gretchen in this book, but I didn't mind, we spend the whole book with Susan and Archie and got to know them better. I felt like the author used this novel to set-up some new stories for our beloved characters down the road, which I am looking forward to. I missed the previous narrator for all of 5min, yes she was great, but Christina Delaine made it her own. I will be keeping my eye out for the next installment, here's hoping there is one!
