This is the extraordinary story of John Carter, who returns to the Red Planet in search of his beloved, Dejah Thoris. John lands in the Valley Dor, which is populated by vicious plant men, and discovers the Lost Sea of Korus, guarded by the great white apes and horrifying lions of Barsoom. It is here that he finds the princess Thuvia, who is a captive of the Holy Therns, high priests who eat only human flesh slain by their plant men. But this is only the beginning of John Carter’s adventures under the double moons of Mars before he fights his way back to his own people as the Prince of the House of Tardos Mors.

“When it rains in a Burroughs novel, the reader gets wet.” (Jack McDevitt, Nebula and Philip K. Dick Award-winning author)
"Engrossing!"
This book was very exciting! Never a dull moment and plenty of battles. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the narrator. His voice was somewhat droning and irritating. His voice did not vary from a monotone.
"Amazballs"
Totally. This sh*t was cliff hanger after cliff hanger. One of the best Sci-Fi stories ever written.
I'm not sure you can.
I have not, but it was good.
The end of the book. The way they left you hanging was insane.
This might be one of the best books I've ever read.
"Great book, terrible performance"
No. The voiceover actor was terrible. He made the main character sound dumb. It really took away from the barsoom series. I stopped listening and returned back to reading the book because of this. This was my first and last experience with and audible book. I can't believe the low quality of this product.
No.
"Not as much fun as John Carter"
It was ok. It felt very dated.
I'm not in a rush. He didn't do much with the character of John Carter in this book.
I didn't particularly like his voice.
no.
I loved the movie and the movie novelization was good. But the style of these books is very out of date and it makes the characters feel a bit wooden.

"Terrible Reading"
If William Dufris had just used his natural voice for John Carter. His false southern accent was too distracting to allow me to follow the reading. I had to download another version. So far, Scott Brick is the premier reader of the John Carter series. I wish Brick had read all the ERB works.
The writing is top-notch and typical ERB.

"I really enjoyed the Princess of Mars"
This followup had a different narrator then Scott Brick who i hate to say was vastly inferior. I don't know if it was his narration or the general tone that changed from book one to book 2 but the drop-off was the difference between great and mediocre. I am going to give book 3 a try now which has a different narrator yet.
Yes i loved the 1st so i will give book 3 a try.
NO!
The style and science of this book were fantastic. It's amazing all of these concepts he arrived at when he did. Mr. Burroughs was truly crafting something beautiful and glorious from a concept that hadn't previously existed.
"still a good line of books."
Great for car travels. Your mind takes you there.
Still he is ok ..
The series does get addictive.
"Another excellent installment of a classic series."
It forms the basis of the saga. This episode introduces so many new characters and races that it is essential to the entire story on whole.
I can't compare this one to any others that I've listened to recently.
