Drawing on her rich imagination, two-time Newbery winner Lois Lowry confronts these questions and explores the conflicts between the gentle bits and pieces of the past that come to life in dream, and the darker horrors that find their form in nightmare. In a haunting story that tiptoes between reality and imagination, two people, a lonely, sensitive woman and a damaged, angry boy, face their own histories and discover what they can be to one another, renewed by the strength that comes from a tiny, caring creature they will never see.

"Spellbinding....Exquisite, at times mesmerizing writing." (Publishers Weekly)
"The prose is light as gossamer; the story as haunting as a dream." (Kirkus Reviews)
"Vividly written"
I could not lay it down.
The 1st page to the last, the book holds the reader's attention. The listener is captured by their own imagination. I cannot pick a favorite moment with out giving the best away.
The narrator, Anne Twomey, was really very creative with her voice. I had not heard her before. She is quite good.
It made me smile inside myself. I was delighted with the book.
I have read other books by Lois Lowery. I enjoyed each one and would reread each one.
