"Laurens's writing shines." (Publishers Weekly)
"Not worth your time"
The narration is excruciating. The narrator carefully enunciates each syllable in a monotonous sing-song voice. I have no idea if the book is good or not- I couldn't finish it.
"Yes, it's really that bad."
I foolishly wasted a credit on this book thinking that I would go with the ratings rather than the single review posted here. I thought well, I've liked other books by this author, so I can at least use it to take my mind off my worries so I can relax and fall asleep. But this book is beyond boring. There is no plot. It could not even keep enough of my attention to enable me to sleep. It is that bad.
"what happened??"
i have enjoyed many books by this author. i thought this would be one as well. i was so wrong. book is painfully slow. i have listened to most of it out of boredom seeing as how i am a long distance driver. i am very disappointed in this work. hope it is the only one like this. very talented writer otherwise.
"Please don't botther"
I have enjoyed other books by this author, but this one is ploddingly slow and the narrator makes it ten times worse. I got through the first half and am probably not going to finish it.
"Not Simon Prebble, but story is still delightful"
yes; Although I prefer Simon Prebble's voice for Miss Laurens novels, this story out weighs all. The narrator's feminine voice gives us a lighter more lyrical voice than usual, but since this story is told from a more feminine point of view than most of Miss Laurens stories it works well and makes this story stand out from her more male Cynster stories.
Overall it's a delightful story!
Dorothea's first encounter with Lord Hazelmere at the berry patch.
lighter more lyrical
yes
"Could not listen to this narration"
I have enjoyed listening my way through the Bastion Club and Cynster novels (more than once), and was excited to start the Regency novels, but absolutely could NOT listen to this narration. After 15 minutes I was done. There is just no way to become involved with a recorded book's plot or characters when the narration is below par. I immediately downloaded the book on my Kindle, so I could enjoy the story.
In my opinion, Simon Prebble should narrate all the Laurens books.
"Good book"
I absolutely liked this book however, the narrator was horrible!! I had to will myself to listen just because I wanted to hear the book. At times, it was like she was reading to children and not adults. Horrible narrator but good book!
