Publisher's Summary

Lady Philippa Marbury is...odd.

The brilliant, bespectacled daughter of a double marquess cares more for books than balls, for science than the season, and for laboratories than love. She's looking forward to marrying her simple fiancé and living out her days quietly with her dogs and her scientific experiments. But before that, Pippa has two weeks to experience all the rest - 14 days to research the exciting parts of life. It's not much time, and to do it right she needs a guide familiar with London's darker corners.

She needs...a Scoundrel.

She needs Cross, the clever, controlled partner in London's most exclusive gaming hell, with a carefully crafted reputation for wickedness. But reputations often hide the darkest secrets, and when the unconventional Pippa boldly propositions him, seeking science without emotion, she threatens all he works to protect. He is tempted to give Pippa precisely what she wants...but the scoundrel is more than he seems, and it will take every ounce of his willpower to resist giving the lady more than she ever imagined.

I'm addicted to audiobooks. I've listened to probably 300 (maybe more) audiobooks most of which are historical romances. Listening is much easier than reading and you can do other things while listening. When reading you can't do anything but read.

    "DISAPPOINTED"
Would you try another book from Sarah MacLean and/or Rosalyn Landor?

Yes, I am looking forward to the next book in this series and Rosalyn Landor is my favorite narrator.

If you’ve listened to books by Sarah MacLean before, how does this one compare?

This book was just not as good as the first book in the series. I think Ms. MacLean is a good writer and story teller, I just don't think she thought this book through before putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard).

What does Rosalyn Landor bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Rosalyn Landor brings the characters to life. I feel like I know the characters personally every time I listen to a book narrated by Ms. Landor.

    Any additional comments?

Considering that this book is the second book in a series, it's missing the key key characters from the first book, Penelope and Borne. Also, considering that Penelope is Pippa's sister and Borne is a co-owner of The Angel, you would really think that they would have role in this book. However, Penelope has ONE conversation with Pippa and Borne is only mentioned. How can the author expect this story to go over well when Penelope and Borne have no interactions with Pippa and Cross? It just doesn't make sense.

I anxiously waited on this book for 6 months or more because I loved the first book so much and I'm so disappointed with this book. There were so many conversations between Pippa and Cross with him imagining what he would like to do with her and it just got old after a while. I believe that Pippa and Cross deserved a better story and Penelope and Borne should have had a role in this story.

Regardless, I plan on listening to this book again in a few months and maybe I will like it better.

    "Not Disappointed"

This is my first Sarah MacLean novel and will not be my last. On top of a good story with strong characters there was clever and entertaining humor throughout. If your looking for lots of sexual scenes, you'll be disappointed, but the book has just enough of that to make the story believable and fun. Rosalyn Landor does here usual fantastic job narrating

    "Missing something"

I didn't hate this book; I liked a good portion of it. But felt there was a lot to be desired and that what I liked isn't enough to recommend it anyone other than true fans of the genre. I think one of the reasons I am disappointed is because the book could have been great.

I wanted to slap the hero and then have a sit down chat with the author on repetitive writing.

Cross seemed to be suffering from 'oh woe is me syndrome'. His reasons were explained but I was left not caring about it. I felt like he was throwing himself a 6 year pity party.

Another issue I had would be a major plot point so I won't go into detail other than to say I don't like it when characters keep things close to home when there is no real reason to. Especially if it's not really a secret. It's like, not telling someone they have broccoli stuck in their teeth because you are afraid you will upset them. It is far more upsetting to walk in the bathroom and see that said food mocking you from the mirror.

Comments or thoughts were also repeated throughout the book. "Oh, you are marrying that guy because he likes dogs and you like dogs? Yes, awesome, why don't you repeat that bit of information every time that particular person is mentioned or in the same room. It is okay, your readers aren't all that attentive, we don't mind, really, because, we need to be reminded that we should be listening to this book, not zoning out thinking about how awesome the color blue is. Just like we need to be told that our male(s) aren't worthy, because the first 8 times were not enough." /sarcasm

I groaned aloud towards the end, when I started counting how many times the word 'deserve' was used. I felt like I was in a meeting where the speech giver forgot there are other words in the dictionary besides 'like' or 'that', and to pass the time I was counting how many times that person said either of those two words.

As usual Rosalyn Landor does a superb job.

I loved Pippa in the first book and felt that Cross would be a great hero, but he ended up being a bit too whiny and way too much like the first books hero for my taste.

    "Perfection!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely , this was a wonderful book and a great experience . I would even recommend it to someone who is not usually a fan of Regency era London romances and know that they would totally agree . l will most definitely listen to it again...

What did you like best about this story?

I found that I was very quickly drawn into the story, loving and hurting and laughing with the characters as if I knew them all in person.

Have you listened to any of Rosalyn Landor’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Oh yes... I know that I can always count on her. She is masterful at giving each character its individuality and personality. Not once do you ever have to wonder which characters voice that is. She is amazingly distinct... I forever wonder how she does it! All you hear is the story, the people, the emotions.... with Rosalyn Landor's performance you hear and live the story, not listen to a narrator.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Indeed! I laughed out loud, wiped tears from my cheeks, got angry and frustated, felt elation and despair... good tears, mad tears, sad tears, and gloriously happy tears!

    Any additional comments?

I listen to (and read) a LOT of romance books and regency era London is my favorite. However I find that I truly enjoy most books but there is one here or there that really winds me into the tale. Once in a while the story drags you so totally into it that you really literally and absolutely FEEL the story. This is one of those!

☆☆Word of warning☆☆.. this author has two books on audio at the moment and when I read the summary for the other one I discovered it was the first in a series and that this was supposed to be second....

Loved this book! Rare to find a romance that takes you from sweet romance to "hot" to laugh out loud scenes and back and forth. Loved the characters - unique Pippa, troubled but good man, Cross. Of course, w/Rosalyn Landor as the narrator, you know it's perfection. Even better than the first book (which was good).

I am a huge fan of romances and happy endings. I like books that take me away from everyday life and into the land of romance, some adventure and of course happy endings.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would but I would recommend reading the books in order. I disagree with the other reviews. I think Pippa's story can stand alone but is richer having read the first book in the series.

What was one of the most memorable moments of One Good Earl Deserves a Lover?

I like when Pippa confronts Castleford and learns there was more to him than she gave him credit. Very likable people.

    Which scene was your favorite?

No I enjoyed the entire book.

    Any additional comments?

I wish there had been more interaction with Pen and Bourne to connect the two books. But I feel the other people who reviewed this book were unfair. Pippa is a unique woman and the author developed her personality very well.

    "Sarah MacLean is my Favorite!"

You simply can't miss with Sarah MacLean and Rosalyn Landor. I have read some of the negative comments and I simply cannot disagree more. The first book of this series was the first book I had listened to by Sarah. I absolutely cannot wait for more on Audible! :) Thank you both for the book and the performance.

The Pippa and Cross relationship is intriguing. I do wish there had been more interaction with Penelope and Bourne from the first book. I think mingling them into the action would have been interesting. But, nonetheless, the books is fun!

"Not bad, but not a favorite."
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I enjoyed the book, but I hoped for more. It was pleasant, so I would say time well spent

What did you like best about this story?

    The narrator is consistently excellent.

Which character – as performed by Rosalyn Landor – was your favorite?

Her male voices, in general are always very good.

Was One Good Earl Deserves a Lover worth the listening time?

It was worth the time, but I feel that the author missed the mark, a little.

    Any additional comments?

The "imperfect fingers" thing was meant to be endearing but was kind of wierd. The six years of celibacy was far-fetched. I didn't really buy it. Maybe if it had been explained better. It was a sexy book, but I think that Digger's motives were shaky. I didn't really believe that character. Also, I am always a little frustrated when characters don't simply talk about what sorts of conflicts are happening. I realize that the point is to create conflict, but it feels pretty convoluted sometimes. This was a decent book, though. I don't regret buying it, I just think it could have been executed better.
