A MASKED MAN . . .
Winter Makepeace lives a double life. By day he's the stoic headmaster of a home for foundling children. But the night brings out a darker side of Winter. As the moon rises, so does the Ghost of St. Giles - protector, judge, fugitive. When the Ghost, beaten and wounded, is rescued by a beautiful aristocrat, Winter has no idea that his two worlds are about to collide.
A DANGEROUS WOMAN . . .
Lady Isabel Beckinhall enjoys nothing more than a challenge. Yet when she's asked to tutor the Home's dour manager in the ways of society - flirtation, double-entendres, and scandalous liaisons - Isabel can't help wondering why his eyes seem so familiar - and his lips so tempting.
A PASSION NEITHER COULD DENY
During the day Isabel and Winter engage in a battle of wills. At night their passions are revealed . . . But when little girls start disappearing from St. Giles, Winter must avenge them. For that he might have to sacrifice everything-the Home, Isabel . . . and his life.

Graduated college, got a job, got married, traveled, had children. Breathing air and growing hair.
"Two thumbs way up."
Love this series and Elizabeth Hoyt never disappoints not like some authors. I truly enjoyed the pairing of the monkish Winter and the experienced widow Isabelle. The Maiden Lane series is just so great. This book has it all a great story, hot romance, an excellent cast of characters, humor drama and mystery. Ashford McNabb is beyond awesome. Her timing, male and female voices, accents and talent land her in the creme de la creme of narrators. Highly recommend this book, narrator and author.

"YOU JUST CAN'T GO WRONG WITH AN E.H LISTEN"
The positive reviewers before me have pretty much summed this book up so all I can add are words, words like:-
Humorous, thrilling, exciting, sexy, passionate, addictive listening, likeable characters, interesting plot with desire, mayhem and danger.
Desperately looking forward to book 5 Lord of Darkness which I've already pre-ordered..... and long may they continue.
Worth a credit? If you're a historical/romance lover then it's just got to be a Yes to this one and you won't be disappointed if you spend your credits on the whole series.
"I loved the story!!!"
I loved this story, it truly gave me a glimpse of the man behind the mask....Winter is my second favorite character and I am thrilled for the sneak peek into book number 5....
Never judge a book by its movie
"EXCELLENT"
OH Yes, it was a great story,it works as a stand alone, however you would get an in depth view if you have read the 1st 3 books.
This is Winter Makepeace's story, he was an amazing character, with a fascinating past, which is revealed with perfect pacing between action and passion.
I love Winter and Isabelle's characters, they were perfect together. I actually LOVED her maid, she was a little nutty & obsessed with Isabelle's clothing.( she's really cute)
She is one of my favourite narrarators, I could not imagine anyone else reading this series.
Introduce yourself to the Man behind the Mask.
Worth the credit! Enjoy!!!
"Elizabeth Hoyt?"
I remember reading EH's books as a woman in my 20's. They all hinted at desire and passion, but were cloaked in innuendoes. Not this series. I was so excited to see this last installment of the series! The first 4 books had all the intrigue and passion I love in a good historical romance novel. This book had an interesting twist, in that it is the man who is the "innocent". The characters are very interesting, and the mystery surrounding the missing children is slowly built in a manner that had me sitting on the edge of my seat with anticipation of what would happen next. Reading the first books in the series is not a must, but does give a lot of insight into the male protaganist's persona. And the chapter beginnings telling tales of "The Ghost of St. Giles" is a stroke of real genius. If you like historical romances with lots of mystery, intrigue and hot, hot, hot desire, I cannot recommend this series enough.
Also, Ms. McNab, while not quite in Ann Floxniks league, does a very good portrayal of the different voices of the characters.
"Loved It!"
I loved everything, the story is fantastic and keeps you reading - I couldn't stop, pretty much read it through in one sitting. I love this series, it has been really fun, and I can't wait for the next book to come out. The ending was a bit of a surprise, I thought this would be the end of the series when it was revealed that Winter is the Ghost - but the end is nice and gives a twist that wasn't expected.
Can't wait for the next book to see where the Ghost takes us next!
I'm addicted to audiobooks. I've listened to probably 300 (maybe more) audiobooks most of which are historical romances. Listening is much easier than reading and you can do other things while listening. When reading you can't do anything but read.
"MY, MY, MY!!!! STEAMING HOT!"
Absolutely! I couldn't hardly weight for Winter's story and I wasn't disappointed. Elizabeth Hoyt delivers!!! Winter and Isabel have a great story and there's plenty of lust, sex and finally love. Hot, hot, hot!
Winter because he struggles to define himself as both a man with carnal desires and the Ghost of St. Giles. He is so honest and cares so deeply and honestly that you have to fall in love with him.
Yes and I think she does a good job. At times I think she reads in a monotone, but I'm so used to her as the characters for the Maiden Lane Series that it doesn't bother me. I would definitely listen to other books narrated by Ms. MacNab.
Absolutely. This book keeps you engaged and holds your attention even through the last word spoken.
What a cliff hanger! My only regret is that I started this series before the whole series was complete. Now I have to wait several months between each release. This book ends on the best cliff hanger with a startling revelation of the Ghost of St. Giles, so I can't hardly wait for the next book.
favorite thing is to walk dogs and listen to books!
"I just couldn't force my self to finish!"
In the 3 previous books ( which I loved) we got to know our hero Winter Makepeace. In my mind I pictured him as a mild mannered somewhat stuffy Ichabod Crane. When I left off in book #4 he was being tutored in the art of being a stud muffin!? Just didn't work for me. And it was taking way to long for Lady Isabel to have any redeeming qualities. I just didn't like her much. This book had a tedious vibe to it.
I loved the story lines in the previous Maiden Lane books and I think Ashford Macnab's narration was part of the package. In Thief of Shadows the book dragged which made her narration drone on and on...
I'm going to give this book a go in the ebook format. That way I can skim more easily as I still want to know what happens. I also will be reading Lord of Darkness instead of listening because of all the hubbub over the change in narrator. Changing narrators on the 5th book in a series...really!?
Tracy Thompson
"Fantastic Series"
This was a great book. the whole series was was fantastic. The narrator did a wonderful job. I recommend this series for credits or dollars. It was totally worth it. I finished this book in one day.
"good narration, meh story"

I didn't finish it
GREAT narrator.
I didn't like Winter's character and so, therefore, no.
