Publisher's Summary

Here's Johnny! is like sitting with Ed and Johnny over lunch.

Brilliant in front of the camera but shy in person, Johnny Carson seldom gave interviews. But no one knew him better than Ed McMahon, Carson's personal friend and showbiz sidekick for almost 40 years. Now, with Johnny's blessings before he died, McMahon can finally share all the stories that only he knows. From the sofa at Johnny's right to backstage and to their personal relationship, McMahon provides a real picture of the man who so carefully censored his public image, revealing the caring person within the dynamic star.

    "disappointing"
How did the narrator detract from the book?

it became tiresome hearing the same catchphrases (heeeeeeeeere's johnny) over and over. seemed much of the storyline was more about Ed than Carson.

"What was Johnny Carson like? Let Ed tell you..."

It is very unfortunate that Johnny Carson was so shy, he never did an autobiography. This left only one person with the requisite knowledge to tell us about Johnny.

Ed McMahon does a wonderful job of filling us in about what it was about Johnny Carson that helped him become America's king of late-night television for 30 years. While Johnny was very adept at what he did, I think deep down he knew he couldn't have gone as far as he did without Ed McMahon's contributions, and Ed greatly downplays his role to focus on Carson and their teamwork.

    Highly recommended!

    "a funny listen!"

This is a loving, charming reminisce by the author of his long, close relationship with Johnny Carson. It is like sitting down and having coffee or a drink and listening to the author talk about his long career in show business with Carson. I found it frequently funny, often of the belly laugh variety, with my obtaining some new insights into Carson's psyche. It's told in no particular chronological order, one can pick it up virtually anywhere without losing one's place. I found the author's reading quite engaging and that made the listen that much more enjoyable. It must've been a special friendship they had. Thank you, Mr. McMahon, for sharing. I enjoyed your audio book and recommend it for anyone wanting to brighten up a blue afternoon.

Told by Ed who knew him best. Tells behind the scenes and late nights out. Who Johnny really was and many who came in contact with him. Has audio from the shows. Will make you laugh and touch your heart.

"The narrator really makes the difference"

I almost feel guilty saying this after Ed's recent death, but he read the book. No infliction of emotion, and no pause or timing in any of the jokes. I listened to the whole thing, but it was hard to do.

"A friend's love and respect for a special time."

I like many millions, have come to love and respect Ed McMahan. As for Johnny it is known by all; there is only one Johnny and for his many hours of laughter and enterainment.

Ed is a man who was blessed to live his life with someone professionally and personal he loved and respect and together they were truly very, very special!!

I thank Ed for taking the time to let us in on some of the moments near and dear to him. I am sure that it was a blessing and painful for Ed to relive his life with and about Johnny and him.

Hhheeerrreeeeeee Johnny!!! We will never see the likes of Johnny or Ed again. As the secretary of war said when President Lincoln died "he now belongs to history" Ed, Johnny now belongs to history.

Thank-you Ed McMahan for putting these thoughts down about two dear friends; men who lived, loved, and gave to the world a tremendous gift-laughter!!!

    "Nothing New"

Although I know it will not be worth it, periodically I succumb to mass hysteria (on an individual basis) and buy a book like this one. I am always dissapointed.

I enjoyed Johnny Carson and Ed McMahon on TV as much as the next person. But this book does not replicate what I enjoyed on the TV screen. It is not that the book is bad, as much as it just doesn't "do" anything.

We get a little history, nothing that was unknown before. We get a lot of humor, nothing that hasn't been told before. We get a lot of sentiment, and nothing pleases me more than to know that these two personalities loved and respected one another as they had good reason to do so. But none of this was new.

Listening to this selection did make me wonder why I buy and listen to the selections I do. I may not have come up with any answers, but I know I must do a better job of resisting buying more of these celebrity titles.

    "Makes me miss Johnny!"

What a joy to remember Johnny Carson! The only bad thing about this book was that it made me miss him like crazy! It sent me running to my old videos from years back...so glad I taped those anniversary shows! If you loved Johnny, you'll love reliving the memories with Ed McMahon. Pure delight!
