"Arrrrggggggg!!!!!!"
It breaks my heart to award such low ratings- so let me be absolutely clear. The book and my opinion of Ms. Kenyons work is a solid gold Nadia Comăneci perfect 10! The narration by William Dufris, however, is so horrendous I would put him in Audiobook jail if it were possible. The Narration is utterly useless in that it failed to achieve the most important task in a narrators job description- SKILLFULLY PORTRAY THE STORY! This guy was so bad it almost sounded like he was just goofing off and trying on different absurd voices while narrating in a nasal singsong that made me want to claw my eyes out. This was conceivably the most distracting, clunky and wholly frustrating performance I have ever heard. Ultimately, I bought and read the e-book fearing I missed a great deal of the story which as it turns out...I DID! This was truly annoying for any fan of Kenyon's work or anyone who paid for a story they will never glean full benefit of by virtue of bad acting and a total lack of any production oversight or to reign him in.
Love the story. Love the book. But sadly I advise fans to seek out the "Library Edition" of this title as the Library Editions are often narrated by different people.
"new reader needed"
I give it a 3 because I like the book and the series, but seriously the guy reading drove me bonkers. I was happy to see a new book, but the reader’s vocal flow and tone were distracting and overly nasal. I felt like someone was trying to preach to me instead of read me a paranormal romance book. IMO better to just read the book than bother with the audio book.
"Good book horrible reader"
This book probably would have been engaging but the narrator was really bad. His voice was so distracting it was difficult to keep track of the story.
"Buy the paperback, not the audio!"
This book really isn't bad, not my favorite in the dark-hunter series, but not bad either. But the narrator is awful! I listen to audio books all the time. I've probably listened to over 200 of them, and this narrator was by far the worst that I have ever heard! I kept trying to get through it, keeping my fingers crossed that the story would get my attention enough that I could forget about how horid the narrator was, but it just didn't happen.
The other books in this series that are on audio are all really good. Pick them up, but get the paperback for this book. Don't torture yourself with listening to this!
"Great Book"
I loved the book but hated the narrator. I did not like the narrator's voice and his pronouncation of names of the characters. However, I did say with book until the end. It appeared there was a voice change near the end of the book. I could really enjoyed the bood as I enjoy all of Ms. Kenyon's novels in all of the dark series.
"Narrator NEEDED!!!"
The Narrator, William Dufris
When I stop listening to the audiobook and bought the ebook
His portrayal of the characters was VERY, VERY POOR. He made the characters sound like old and decrepit people.
Yes, the Author, and the fact that I could read instead of 'listening' ot the book.
Audible should issue a refund to anyone purchase the audiobook and demand a refund from William Dufris. Do not hire William Durfis to read any more books.
"narrator was NOT good, but book was awesome"
probably NOT due to the Narrator, there was way to much trying for these person to do this.
the BEST narrator i have heard for these books would have to be FRED.
change Narrator.
All her books are great..I love all of them, but for this book i was really unhappy with the narrator...it was spoken to hard and not smoothly. I could not relate to story due this narrator. i was very unhappy due to this.
Tell us about yourself!
"Narrator..."
I really enjoy this series and can't help but wonder if it would have been more interesting if read by Holter Graham or Fred Berman. Throwing a new reader into a series after you get used to the characters as portrayed by a certain narrator can distort the flow of the story. I personally do not like Mr Dufris as a narrator, but it doesn't make it a bad story. I might try actually reading it... :)
