"An English Treasure"
Another good yarn by Lynda La Plante which is brought to life by great reading. Kim Hicks has a lovely voice and an empathy for the story which ensures the reading makes the most of the story line. Thoroughly enjoyed listening and imagining what the stables and surrounding country side looked like. If you like Lynda La Plante I would thoroughly recommend this version.
"Red Dahlia"
Thoroughly enjoyable, fast paced crime thriller set in the UK and written with the English 'voice'. The narrator did a great job with the female characters, but some of her male voices, Lewis in particular, raised a few laughs. Lewis' voice was ponderous and I wonder if the sound engineer deepened the tone by slowing it down... anyway, I was not the only one to be amused. Luckily the writing was strong enough that these giggle moments didn't pull me right out of the magic of the story. Overall MOST enjoyable and worth the $.
