"Half tall tale, half novel, Jerry Spinelli's Newbery Award winner is beautifully narrated by film and television actress S. Epatha Merkerson." (School Library Journal)
"A humorous yet poignant tall tale." (Publishers Weekly)
"Fun story, dragged down by too much agenda..."
The story line is good, but the author has such an obvious agenda to preach that the story gets lost in the background noise at times.
"Excellent Middle School Story"
Life lessons abound

It would make me cry because all Jeffery wants is a home and he is so close so many times only to lose it again and again.
"Wonderfully narrated"
This is my first audible.com book and I thoroughly enjoyed the narration! The story is well written and teaches a lesson without being "preachy". I will definitely listen to this again and with my children.
"Great story, warm and wonderful reading"
We loved the story and the reading given to it here is a pleasure to listen to, bringing a whole new life to the tale. Cheers!
Separated mom of 3 (14,12,10); nursing student who has NO time to sit and read so I get my book "fix" in the car and during workouts!!
"Terrific for FAMILY road trips!!!"
Funny, moving, classic tale.
All of Maniac's interactions with the old man.
Beautifully performed by Ms. Merkerson! My kids ask for it when we take a trip and they're entering their teens! Better than a DVD any day!!
"You will laugh and cry!!"
I would definately listen to Maniac Magee again!! This story has many lessons to teach. All ages will fall in love with Maniac and Amanda Beal. I will listen to this story again and again.
What I enjoyed best about the story is how the author uses the characters to bring love and compassion to life.
Amanda Beal
How one little boy changed his neighborhood for the better.
"S. Epatha Merkerson - Awsome!!"

Protect the innocent and helpless. Stand for truth and goodness and your soul will be happy and blessed.
"Maniac Magee is a great book"
My child had to read this for school. We as a family thought it would be good to listen to it together as he read along with the book. I am so glad we did. The story is about compassion for people no matter the
color or station in life. It is about love. One of the best books I have read.
Even my husband loved it. We were all in tears at the end of the book.
The narrator is the best. She did each voice perfectly. She was especially good with the children's voices.
I hope audible will ask Merkerson to read more children's books and I do believe she is gifted reader.
Even my son was taken aback by how well she read.
