Eight Weeks to Optimum Health focuses all of Andrew Weil's expertise in both conventional and alternative medicine on a practical week-by-week, step-by-step plan, covering diet, exercise, lifestyle, stress, and environment - all the aspects of daily living that affect health and well-being. And he shows how his program can be tailored to the specific needs of pregnant women, senior citizens, overweight people, and those at risk for cancer, among others.
Dr. Weil has added the most up-to-date findings on such vital subjects as cholesterol, antioxidants, trans fats, toxic residues in the food supply, soy products, and vitamins and supplements, together with a greatly enhanced source list for information and supplies.
Preventive in the broadest sense, straightforward, and encouraging, Eight Weeks to Optimum Health has proved to be, and in this updated version will continue to be, an essential book.

"Good book... but...."
The book as a whole is an excellent source for alternate wellness. The only downside that I found was that the audible version does not come with the recipes and appendix that are refered throughout the book. I had to go out and purchase the book, after purchasing the audible version, for the recipes and other references made in the book. Other than that it is an excellent well written book on preventative health.
"Great information, but not good audio."
This would be a great book, in book form. For it to work in Audio form it needs more, that is to say there needed to be a PDF file attached that showed the recipes and figures that are referenced constantly in the book. There are too many references like see page xxx. I do not have the book to make that reference.
"excellent book poorly produced"
Dr. Weil's approach moves you toward your optimum health one small intelligent change at a time starting from wherever you are right now.
Unfortunately this wonderful book is narrated in a "radio voice" manner by one who doesn't appear to understand the meaning of the words and phrases he reads.
Additionally frustrating is the frequent instruction to refer to appendices which do not exist in the audio edition, while at the same time each recipe is read in full detail aloud.
This book is much too good for the shoddy production it received and one is forced to purchase the paper edition to get the value of Dr. Weil's amazing advise.
"great health discussion!"
Im a health junkie, this is an epic audiobook, exceptional because he uses many aspects of daily life to make yourself healthier in very small DOABLE steps. If you want to heal your mind, body, and/or spirit buy this.
I go for walks every morning and listen!
"Odd voice recording"
I really enjoy Dr. Weil's books and have listened to him on audio in the past...so I expected that this book would be in his own voice. It isn't. It has a strange cadence and is very unlike Dr. Weil's voice. It's very off putting. And, a shame too because the information is so very valuable. Good book... just a strange recording.
"Good Guide"
I loved this book because it did not focus on... "Do not" ..."avoid".."STOP!".
The author encourages you to add good things each week. Olive oil, fish, brocoli, exercise. Each time I listen to this book I hear something good to add to my day. Even recipes! I really love listening to this book.
"Good start to changing your lifestyle"
It begins with a biographical piece on Dr. Weil. I could have had less of that. The later 1/3 of the book is good note taking stuff. I incorporated the supplemental recommendations.
"Inspriring"
Very practical and motivational. No hype. Great information. Inspired me to get started!
This is one I may need to get hard copy for recipes and reference information. A book that I want in my personal library.
"Better as a regular book"
I did really get a lot from this book. He explains why some foods that we hear about aren't good for you. He doesn't just say don't do this or that, he explains what is in certain foods that can harm you and how they harm you. Its your choice then to decide what to put in your body. He also takes all the changes very slow which is a huge key to change in my opinion.
The reason I think this is better as a paper book is to have the recipes easy to use at your finger tips. I went to a used bookstore and had the book on hand as I listened to it as well in my car.
"Great Book with Practical and Doable Advice"
The book itself is a great book. I like how Dr. Weil does not FORCE you to drastically change your life in 8 weeks. His advice is very accurate but very sensible. You do not feel overwhelmed by all the changes that a lot of folks suggest so as you read/listen to this book you know that you can apply the principles in this book to your life...no matter what your current lifestyle is. I do recommend the hard copy as well as he's got a lot of recipes and other items that you might find helpful to be able to reference in text as opposed to just audio. Overall its a great book and I recommend it to anybody that wants to life a healthier more meaningful life.
