Publisher's Summary

When Harriet Vane attends her Oxford reunion, known as the "Gaudy", the prim academic setting is haunted by a rash of bizarre pranks: scrawled obscenities, burnt effigies, and poison-pen letters - including one that says, "Ask your boyfriend with the title if he likes arsenic in his soup."

Some of the notes threaten murder and one of them involves a long Latin quotation, which makes Harriet suspect that the perpetrator is probably a member of the Senior Common Room. But which of the apparently rational, respectable dons could be committing such crazed acts? When a desperate undergraduate, at her wits' end after receiving a series of particularly savage letters, attempts to drown herself, Harriet decides that it is time to ask Lord Peter Wimsey for help. And when the mystery is finally solved, she is faced with an agonising decision: Should she, after five years of rejecting his proposals, finally agree to marry Lord Peter?

    "Unabridged? Uh-uh!"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No, this version of Gaudy Night is disappointing. If this book were unabridged, the answer would be a resounding yes--but it's abridged, and a very distorted version of the real novel by Dorothy Sayers which is one of my favorites.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Dorothy Sayers always gives enough hints to keep me intrigued and guessing--her style and the revelation of the characters keeps me turning the pages.

Which character – as performed by AudioGO Ltd – was your favorite?

Lord Peter of course--but Harriet is a close second

Do you think Gaudy Night needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, but Busman's Holiday is great!

    Any additional comments?

I do not think I will buy any other books by AudioGO Ltd--if I do not trust a company, I do not support it.

    "Wrongly Catergorized"

This is a performance of the Gaudy Night story, which, while enjoyable, was not what I wanted. Surely you can be more vigilant. I expected a reading of the book as written and was quite disappointed.

"NOT if you read the book..."
Would you try another book from Dorothy L. Sayers and/or AudioGO Ltd?

This original adaptation of Gaudy Night is perfectly fine for a person whohas not read the book...but for anyone who has read it and loved it, this version isa sad disappointment. Unabridged versions of good books are ALWAYS a sorry experience...So much of the original story is not there, charactors are missing and their parts have been applied to other charactors. I would think the author would be quite angry.

What was most disappointing about Dorothy L. Sayers’s story?

Too much of the original story is missing in order to make the abridgement..

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Probably, but I ususally am disappointed by movies made from books I love.

    "Not unabridged"
What disappointed you about Gaudy Night?

I would like to return this. It is advertised as unabridged but is actually heavily abridged.

Would you be willing to try another one of AudioGO Ltd’s performances?

    Only if it is unabridged.
