I've long been a fan of Joan Rivers. Her wit and humor are like no one else but this book is just a bitter diatribe of disapointment. From the very beginning it spews sadness and hatred. There is a fine line between being funny and bitterness, this book crosses it repeatedly. Old stale jokes from the 60's that were once funny are now just sad and fill the book from beginning to end. I couldn't even finish it I was so depressed. You would think someone with as much success in her life would be happier.....go figure.

Not funny, just old and tired. I love her shows shes witty and smart and in the now. This book might as well be telling mother in law jokes. Sad and embarrassing. I didn't even finish the book. I was really looking forward to it as well. Wasted my money don't waste yours.

I was ready to write a melting love letter to this book and its author-until I find how much had been left out!

Where was the part with the funny nicknames for all our 50 states? Where were some of the other hilarious jokes?
What was there was excellent. I loved it to death. I've loved Joan Rivers since the early '80s when she subbef for Johnny Carson, and appeared on Hollywood Squares. What a hoot.

I love her, but listening to the book was so annoying. It sounded more like pissing and moaning than it probably would have if I were reading it myself or seeing her perform it in a stand-up format. Sorry, Joan. I'm a huge fan of your work, just not of this book in this format.

Disappointment and annoyance.

I LOVE Joan Rivers and that's why I bought the book. I love that she narrates the book so it is told the way she intended it to be read. That's a plus. However, there isn't that much of a story. There is *some* story but not that much. For example, I definitely enjoyed learning about her past, her childhood, her early career, etc... This I found really very interesting. However, there isn't a lot of substance to the book overall and at times all the "I hate..." can feel a bit too negative. Having said all that, if you love Joan Rivers this is a nice book, definitely very funny at times, and also very interesting at times. Her comedic genius definitely comes through but overall - just ok.

I had heard Joan Rivers interviewed recently, so I thought I would find this funny. I found it stupid and offensive. After 15 minutes, I'd had enough and didn't listen to anymore. This is really bad.

Strictly for JR fans. A few hilarious jokes. If wine mellows with age. Joan doesn't. She is acidic, harsh and sometimes hard to swallow. I like bitchy humor and I enjoyed her audio interpretation of her own book.

I liked hearing the book in the author's voice. It was like watching her stand up act with my ears..

No one will turn this into a film. Nor should they.

Joan is tough and funny, but I get the feeling that when the lights go down, she is unpleasant to be around. One day, Melissa will write a tell all, and it won't be pretty.

as an avid listener of podcasts and standup routines, i enjoyed this audio book. i imagine most of you are at least fans of comedy so my headline should make sense. its as if joan was doing a show and just stuck with the hater theme the entire time. not knocking it at all it was right up my alley. so this is my long winded way of saying: if you like slightly hateful comedy routines buy this "audio book". if you dont, well i think joan said it best, "go f--k yourself"

Funny, sinful, embarrassing.

She doesn't hold back. Sometimes I was ashamed to read (and enjoy) some of the stuff. Most of the book I've quoted to others. It was a welcome break from all the serious books I read.
