Publisher's Summary

A few exemplary individuals must lead an army of exiles in a struggle to survive—and raise an empire from the ashes of civilization.

James Ursidae lost his family as a child, which broke his sanity and turned him into a vicious but brilliant warrior. Driven by both his technological genius and a desire for revenge, James finds himself on a journey of creative destruction. As he rises from prejudice, trauma, and indecision, he discovers a newfound desire to protect, and in the process he helps create a civilization based not only on the archetype of the hero but something true to human nature: the raw force of the antihero.

By combining a style similar to Orson Scott Card with the practical, down-to-earth feel of Jim Butcher, The Exile Empire throws listeners into a new world of real people, real machines, and real action—with some of the most epic warfare you could ask for in a science fiction novel.

If you enjoy the adventure and technology of science fiction but are tired of contrived drama and characters who act according to unrealistic desires, motivations, and morals, The Exile Empire is a must-listen. It is jam-packed with action, alien armadas, incalculably powerful warships, antimatter, plasma, and energy weapons.

    Any additional comments?

This book is the story of humanity on the rocks and trying to recover from devastating losses taken at the hands of an alien civilization. The book is fast paced and is a blend of battlestar galactica and honor harrington combined together. The characters were very well developed in my opinion without spending a lot of time on irrelevant details or relationships. Overall one of my new favorites cannot wait to read more in the Phoenix series.

    "Pleasantly suprised"
What made the experience of listening to The Exile Empire the most enjoyable?

This story is fast, the descriptions are concise and do not get boring. Unusual plot but entertaining.

What did you like best about this story?

For once there is a leader that is not a total idiot. All the characters work well together.Powerful stuff and well worth buying.

Have you listened to any of Philip Pickard’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not had the pleasure of reading or listening to other books by Philip Pickard.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I definitely wanted to listen to this story in one sitting but could not due to the children. Thats why I can listen to this book again.

"Draft story, not ready for release"

Think of the honor Harrington series by david weber reduced to a single book. Not a good result. Narrator was even worse. Tried to be dramatic by reader faster and faster.
