Killing for Sport: Inside the Minds of Serial Killers

As a doctoral student in forensic psychology, I appreciate Brown's "toning down" of normally complex and often disturbing facts about serial killers. Her efforts to dispel common myths about these monsters is a public service, as she tries to alert everyday people about the importance of maintaining a state of suspicious alertness as you go through your daily life; serial killers, as well as murderers and rapists, CAN be in your neighborhood, at your workplace, waiting on you at the store, gas station, or even in your home as they install the alarm you believe will keep you safe. Remember BTK worked for an extremely well-known, national home security/alarm company, as a means to gain entry to the homes of at least one of his victims. She is not a professional narrator and her sometimes awkward pauses and drawn-out phrases bear that out, but her natural dark sense of humor bleeds through and she is quite effective at making her main points easily understood. The pace of the book proceeds very smoothly and quickly for the most part, and I found the book to be largely entertaining and it should prove very informative for anyone who is not technically or professionally trained in the relevant fields. Pat Brown has a entertainingly quirky way of presenting her book. Bear in mind that there is some disturbing material contained therein, and Brown's dark humor regarding that material will be offensive to people not accustomed to dealing with forensics, violent crime, and criminology.

Pat Brown really takes you into the mind of these monsters who kill for sport. She has done her homework and knows the subject well. I really enjoyed the book and highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a well written work.

Although the author is a bit more flippant than necessary when describing some of the details, he is clearly an expert who takes his job seriously. This is a straight forward look into psyche of some very dark-hearted killers. If you do a lot of jogging on lonely park trails (as my wife and I often do), you may find yourself opting for the road more traveled for a week or two! This is a must listen for anyone interested in the learning about the criminal mind.

This is a GREAT book, it is writing and read by the author and she was in both areas extremely well written and read the book as only one who has lived though the issues of her career. I very highly recommend this book it is something that all folks need to hear and to understand that these person Pat reads about live among us and it behooves us to learn of those around us who do killing for sport!!!!

The understanding of how those of whom Pat has written about are in most way NORMAL.

She is not just reading a book she has lived this book!!

That the violent people appear normal.

I loved the information and the stories. Held my attention and kept me riveted. Practical information for protecting yourself from becoming a victim. Gives a different view of profiling which I found fascinating and logical. Great performance! I really enjoyed the author's dry sense of humor and cynicism. I will definitely be looking for other books by this author.

I have read many books about serial killers and I bought this book with the hopes that it would give me more information about how and why serial killers do what they do. The author decided to write a book about the things we need to know about serial killers in order to prevent us from being a victim of one. Great idea, but there was nothing revealed in this book I did not already know as an avid reader of this genre.
