Publisher's summary

Katie MacAlister, best-selling author of paranormal romantic comedies, ignites a devilishly lusty story with Light My Fire. The gorgeous Aisling Grey, introduced in You Slay Me, juggles being a demon lord, a Guardian, and a wyvern's mate all at once - though not always successfully. Recently relocated to London, Aisling and her doggie demon sidekick, Jim, are eager for a fresh start. Drake the hunky dragon, however, has other plans for her.
Spend some more time with Aisling Grey.

Somebody please get the narrator a Ricola

I continue to feel completely polarized by this series. I loved the first story and is still in my mind the best, each subsequent installment I have liked less and had a harder time grasping the connections and explanations the authors uses. I still enjoy the plots enough that I will see the series out and with only one more book that is not much of a commitment. In this story Aisling's relationship with her demon, lover and mentor all progress with a heavy does of hijinks thrown in. Parts of the story were a little dramatic for me but I wonder if I would have had the same issue if I were reading the books instead of listening. The Aisling in my head does not speak the lines the way the narrator reads them.

Which brings me to my main issue with this series. The narrator is awful. I really don't mind the way she voices every other character but the voice she uses to read Aisling is that of a heavy smoker and old lady. If that isn't bad enough she has this habit of swilling mucus noisily around in her mouth, you can hear her sucking it through her teeth and swallowing, I find it not only disgusting but distracting. Also in this installment there are some really weird pauses, long enough to make me check if my earbuds had become unplugged. I don't know how this was ever approved of the finished product. It saddens me that such a promising series has been torpedoed by terrible performances.

I should have known better...

I normally read science-fiction and fantasy. I found this one while browsing a Valentine's Day sale, and was attracted by the mention of dragons and demons. I should have known better.

Perhaps the main problem was not having read the previous books in the series, but I found the heroine to be very annoying, and her lover to be one-dimensional and uninteresting. I could not get a clear picture of either one of them, and did not really feel any chemistry between them. Even the sex scenes were unconvincing and strangely empty. Worst of all, the narration is full of annoying swallowing sounds.

From here out, I'll stick to my own genre...

Hot and sexy but where's the rest of the series?

This book feels like Harry Potter meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Well, a Buffy the Vampire Slayer rated R for sexual content. MacAlister's heroine is hilarious as she struggles with the arcane underworld of Europe's demon princes, guardians, wyverns, and other magical folk.

My only difficulty was that this book seems to be third in a series. When will Audible.com be making the first two books in the series available?

Intertaining series

Extremely intertaining series of books. I wish there were more of them available on audible.com. I always buy the lastest books and want to have the books on my IPOD for travel to veg out. Great narration too.

That swallowing thing

Rosenblat is a good performer but the swallowing thing is hugely distracting. It just seems like the production people or the director could do something about it.

Love, Love, Love this book!

This book is action packed, sexy and lots of fun. The author has really brought her invention of a world hidden deep within our own of magic and dragons to life. I love the author and hope audible will carry more of her work!

Good Listen but.....

Barbara Rosenblat's outstanding performance of this audiobook could not make up for the author's inconsistencies in this book. Her explanations for the characters' actions are sorely lacking, even if her purpose was to leave us panting for the next book. I was so ready to purchase the next book, having enjoyed the first 3, but now I don't think I will. She left me too frustrated at the end.
Rosenblat's performance, however, was excellent. I especially enjoyed her interpretation of Jim's character. The narrator is the only reason I did not rate this book lower.

Tale of the aimless bimbo

“I began to hope our future together wasn’t going to be as stressful, as the last few days.
Boy, do I need to be whomped upside the head with a premonition stick.”
So many frustrations with this book. First, we are once again picking up with the “off-again” relationship between Aisling and Drake. Bad reasons break them up and bad reason bring them back together. Through it all, neither makes any attempt to get to know each other beyond lust (I don’t know anything about their likes or dislikes, hobbies, etc) This book adds in a parental complication of the most unbelievable in-law variety and a potential pregnancy plot, killing what little romance fun existed in the two prior books.

Second, the failure of anyone to explain even a little bit of the magical world to Aisling continues to be the contrived plot device to “advance” the story. Three books into a four book series and there’s no plot except the “Aisling bumbles into xyz magic situation without a clue what to do and makes thing worse” plot.
In this installment, she bumbles dragon, demon, and Guardian politics.

Third, the narrator once again slobbers on the mic. It’s not as bad as book 1, but worse than book 2.

The hijinks are few and far between. There’s not even a murder mystery like in book 2 to distract us.
The only part I enjoyed was the adventures of Jim the demon-dog.

incomprehensible story, excruciating narrator

What disappointed you about Light My Fire?

The reviews I read before picking the book.

What could Katie MacAlister have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Possibly she could have chosen a different narrator.
I couldn't find a plot, but perhaps it was because the narrator was so obnoxious and distracting.

How could the performance have been better?

A different reader could have helped, but perhaps not enough to make this story worth listening to. The fake French accents didn't help.

What character would you cut from Light My Fire?

All of them.

Any additional comments?

Don't bother trying to figure out what the reviews are talking about, just move on to a better writer and narrator.

Bravo, Katie and Barbara!

I have been a faithful Katie Macalister fan from day 1.... Before I joined Audible-I READ every series she has out and in doing so, my mind had created it's own opinion of all the character's voices, traits, etc... So, when I purchased and began listening to the Audible versions- narrated by Barbara Rosenblat, I admit I was a bit worried it wouldn't do them justice.... Her voice is very distinct- BUT... Oh, how I was SOOOO wrong!!!! Barbara's unique vocal ranges and absolutely superb variations on the characters accents BLEW ME AWAY!!! There really is no other narrator who could pull it off so flawlessly! Bravo Katie, and BRAVO Barbara!!!!
