Galactic Convoy

I have to say that after listening to "The Helmsman" every time I logged into my Audible account I looked to see if there were any other books published in the "Helmsman" series. After months of waiting, finally "Galactic Convoy" was posted.

I downloaded this book with great anticipation and set to for a marathon listening session, two days later and after some 13 hours of totally enthralled listening I was done. Bill Baldwin & Timberwolf Press have done it again, for sheer enjoyment probably the best Audible Science Fiction I have listened to date.

The main characters from the first book (The Helmsman) are all present and correct with a variety of the new that integrate seamlessly into the plot where the previous book left off. Bill Baldwin?s vivid imagination and descriptive ability, with the help of an excellent narrative cast put me right along side "Wilf".

As our hero "Wilf Ansor Brim" again forges his way through the galaxy in adventure after adventure, (which I found utterly addictive in every way) I was with "Friend Wilf" sharing his sadness and joy, visiting the worlds he went to and battled the leaguers right along side him. In a book I can ask no more than that.

This book is not a masterpiece of literature. However, if you like I enjoy a good ripping yarn that than entertained for a solid 13 hours then listen to this book. I have already checked to see if the next book is available, and unfortunately it?s not. (Take note Audible)

Best if you had read "The Helmsman" by Bill Baldwin. Overall very fast moving book that captures your full attention. I listen daily on a 30 minutes ride to and from work. This book has been one that I have stayed in the car to listen to when returning home. If you enjoyed Baldwin's earlier book you should enjoy this one.

Sure the "acting" can be a little stiff at times. But who cares! It's a ripping good yarn!

I have been hard on some of the bad acting and bad writing in other books sold on Audible (you should avoid Death Stalker like the plague), but the writing here is great fun and pretty tight. Be forewarned that the books in this series are occasionally predictable and kind of stiffly preformed, but the writing is fine and the plot is just good SciFi fun. Suspend your disbelief! Blow a credit! It's worth the adventure!

I reviewed the Helmsman and said it was so bad that it was good-very entertaining. But in this second volume the horrible dialogue wears thin, and it isn't as much fun as the first book. The love triangle with Margo gets even more ridiculous. I'm sorry I wasted the time on it.

I heard a few chapters of the first book on XM radio, was intrigued and ordered the book. I liked the first book and downloaded the second. This story seemed thin and I just couldn’t finish it. It wasn’t necessarily a bad book, it wasn’t unique enough for me and couldn't hold my attention.

I'm not 100% sure why I bought this book in the first place. I had listened to the Helmsman the month before and thought that it was ridiculous, but I guess there was a core of a good "coming of age" story hidden among the sophomoric dialogue to make me come back for (and hope for) more. Unfortunately, I was sorely disappointed.

The characters were wooden and predictable, the dialogue was stilted and laughable, and the "dramatization" was bad enough to make a high school drama class cringe! Don't get me wrong...I am a big fan of sci/fi and fantasy. However, I found myself looking at the timer on my Ipod repeatedly to see how much longer I had to endure the pain. If I had it to do over again, I would listen to an audio version of US tax law before I picked up this book.

any one know when the rest of the Wilf Brim story will come to audio?

I would hope that there will be another book on the life of Wolf Brem,,,,,,,,,,
