Ninety-four men have to die on or near certain dates in the next two-and-a-half years. Their deaths are the final step in an operation to which the leaders of the Organization have devoted many years. The hope and the destiny of the Aryan race lie in the balance. Why have these harmless aging men been marked for murder? What is the hidden link that binds them? What interest can they possibly hold for their killers: 6 former SS men dispatched from South America by the most wanted Nazi still alive, the notorious "Angel of Death"? "Good Book—Bad Sound"

Ira Levin is a genius, but this audiobook sounds like it was recorded on a battery-operated 1960s mini-tape recorder while viewing Niagara Falls. I have never listened to an audio book with such a poor signal-to-noise ratio.

    "A Classic Thriller"

An incomprehensible series of murders, engineered by Angel of Death Dr. Josef Mengele, are underway. Nothing about the victims would make them targets of the Nazis. Renowned Nazi hunter Yakov Liebermann- who is underfunded, understaffed, and possibly facing eviction from his office quarters due to the sheer weight of his files affecting the floor- doesn't believe this crazy story...at first. Then as the deaths start occurring, he struggles with not only putting the pieces together but with trying to get anyone else to believe.

I loved this book when I first read it years ago that I had to get it when I saw it was on Audible. Simon Vance is my favorite narrator, he always does a phenomenal job.

The only reason why I gave it four stars has nothing at all to do with the quality of the story. It's an excellent thriller. This book was written in the 1970s and some of the things in the story would be mindblowing to people reading it at that time. I don't think today's reading audience will have that type of visceral reaction.

    "great story, enjoyable reader."
Would you consider the audio edition of The Boys from Brazil to be better than the print version?

i have never read the print version, but i did enjoy the audiobook very much.

Who was your favorite character and why?

i guess lieberman, but i liked them all. tha reader did a great job with the accents.

    Which scene was your favorite?

i will spoil the book if i say. lets just say that a big discovery was made, that brought the reason for the killings to light.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

again i don't want to be a spoiler.

    Any additional comments?

the preformer was amazing. he did german and english accents so well. he is talented.

    "Spellbinding Effort"
Where does The Boys from Brazil rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This endeavor has gone beyond my expectations as the story unravels and the depth of human depravity explored and revealed.. The voice

What other book might you compare The Boys from Brazil to and why?

This book defies comparison. It's uniqueness is compeling. .

What does Simon Vance bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Vanc leads the listener through the frenzy of events in a determined tone of unlimited expectations. Mr. Vance wants the reader to enjoy this amazing story as much as he does.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There are so many breathtaking moments. At the beginning when the girl admits to placing the tape recorder in the room is extremely memorable because of the chain of events that follow. It sets the tone for the book.

    "BRAVO!!!!!"
    Any additional comments?

I read a lot of the reviews before I dowmloaded this book! Some criticized Simon Vance and thought that the audio quality was unacceptable. WELL....I don't know if this has been reissued since the first recording BUT both are excellent now!! Enjoy!!

What disappointed you about The Boys from Brazil?

I've read this book a few times, and I'm used to my timing, inner voices etc. Simon Vance was fine but a bit monotone. It's purposely dead pan, so it needs something to bring out the wryness, the irony, the omg.

Would you ever listen to anything by Ira Levin again?

Of course. He's a genius, and seeing (hearing) the way every word counts is a thrill. Like listening to music. I also downloaded R's Baby, and I look forward to A Kiss before Dying.

What didn???t you like about Simon Vance???s performance?

I like simon vance a lot. But he didn't seem to be having fun.

You didn???t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

who says I didn't love this book? I do love it.

    Any additional comments?

A wonderful book, and it's nice to be able to wash dishes or fall asleep while you listen to it, but it is a little better when you read it yourself.

    "Poor audio quality"

Great novel and Vance is also a great reader, but the audio quality is very poor. It is old and there constantly is noise in the background. Also, you often hear an echo.
