"A trip back in time to a gentler place."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?Yes. The reader's voice was pleasant and of course English so who wouldn't like that? The story was entertaining and the conflicts believable.
What did you like best about this story?Like all Miss Read books, there is a feeling of stepping back in time. The characters are likable, even the irascible old groundskeeper for the church, and are people you wish you could know and visit, take a cup of tea with and talk together.
It really isn't the story line in her books that I love as much as a mood she evokes with village life and human interactions and relationships. I leave each book with regret and miss the people till the next read.
Who was the most memorable character of Battles at Thrush Green and why?Miss Read brings back some loved characters in this book and one is hard pressed to find a favorite, though I guess it would be the vicar in this story. He is so lovable and human. His 'battle' with some of the town folk shows his good sense, sweet temperament and Godly character.
Any additional comments?I love the Miss Read. I am so glad I found them on audio and my favorite time to listen is at night before bed. What a sweet, calming way to drift off to sleep. The books are similar to Jan Karon's Mitford books yet, I prefer Miss Read's take on small town life and fine I read them (or listen) to them over and over, something I don't do with Karon's.

"Welcome to Thrush Green"
We first discovered Miss Read's books on cassette tapes from the library 30 years ago, and we were delighted to find them again as Audible books -- and hope that more are on the way. Gwen Watford has just the right tone and presence for the stories. The Thrush Green books are simple, comfortable, and a joy. They wear well for repeated listening.

"Excellent"
Wonderful characters with believable friendships, tensions, and resolutions in a small old-fashioned village. This book makes me smile. Gwen Watford's performance is perfect.
