Men in Green Faces: A Novel of U.S. Navy SEALs

I have stopped buying print versions of novels in which I am interested, so I must admit that the audio edition of "Men in Green Faces" stands as my favorite by default.

Willie was my favorite character because, like my affinity for Arthur Dent in Douglas Adams's "The Restaurant at the end of the Universe," he brought a bit of humanity to the war in Vietnam for Gene. When he died and Gene started to unravel into a homicidal maniac bent on revenge, the truth of war being hell became vivid.

I have not listened to any of Jeff Gurner's other performances before, but I look forward to listening to another.

Once I started this book, it was hard to "put it down"

The characters came alive, the realism of the situations was right on, and the sensativity of Gene Wentz was portrayed well. Not everyone was a bad guy, not everyone was a good guy, that was the V.N. war.

I have not. His vocal, however, was a near-perfect read, not too gruff, not too soft.

These situations made me appreciate what our armed forces do for us every day of every year. They put themselves in harm's way; we need to appreciate them more!

Any one who was over there or knew of someone who served there would probably enjoy this read.

It is a combination of a tense, breath-taking plot and excellent performance of the narrator that makes me want to listen again and again. The story is highly dynamic, it captivates the listener and makes it really hard to pause the narrative just for a little while.

Men in Green Faces kept me interested throughout the entire book. There is not a lot of back story and needless information about the characters to bog you down. It is action from the start and never slows down. It was refreshing to read a novel about the Vietnam war that isn't full of drug use and the liberal slant that you get in books like platoon but being about a SEAL platoon I didn't expect that in the first place. The tactics and weaponry are accurate to the time period. I really enjoyed the characters and would recommend this book for your library.

What was it really like being in Vietnam.

Absolutely.
The reason why I'd recommend this audiobook to a friend is because it's a realistic look about the early days of the Navy SEALs in Vietnam. Throughout listening, it made my ask myself several times: What were we doing in Vietnam to begin with? What bought us to that war?
It technically wasn't our fight. It was North and South Vietnam's. But that's just me.

No other book I can think of.

Nothing unique, but he does bring an excellent narration and good performances as the characters throughout the book.

It has to be main character Gene Michaels, he's a very competent man and gets hit hard by the losses of innocent people and his friends. Leading him to revenge against the main antagonist. Col. Nguyen, that's what I think makes him interesting.
