No man can resist Jemma's sensuous allure...except her own husband!
Wedding bells celebrating the arranged marriage between the lovely Duchess of Beaumont and her staid, imperturbable duke had scarcely fallen silent when a shocking discovery sent Jemma running from the ducal mansion. For the next nine years she cavorted abroad, creating one delicious scandal after another (if one is to believe the rumors).
Elijah, Duke of Beaumont, did believe those rumors.
But the handsome duke needs an heir, so he summons his seductive wife home. Jemma laughs at Elijah's cool eyes and icy heart - but to her secret shock, she doesn't share his feelings. In fact, she wants the impossible: her husband's heart at her feet.
But what manner of seduction will make a man fall desperately in love...with his own wife?

"A TOUCHING & PASSIONATE ROMANCE IN GEORGIAN LONDON"
I love E.J.'s books and they are an automatic download for me, this has been a great series - but, to get the most out of them, then it's best to listen to them in order.
The plot of this one is - weeks after they marry Jemma catches Elijah bent over his desk with his mistress, so she flees to France for 9 years until he summons her back because he needs an heir. She thinks she knows him but there is a lot that she's unaware of but she's willing to woo him back and he's desperate to oblige her.
This, in my opinion, is the best in the series so far as it focuses mainly on the two main characters who deeply love each other but, because of outside influences, their relationship never runs smoothly. It's got romance, passion, fun, great characters but it's sad and very touching too. It also gives us an insight of London long ago.
Worth a credit? Yes, it's a 'must have' for us historical/romance lovers - but please try not to miss the whole series.
"Irritating performance"
Eloisa James yes, Susan Duerden no.
I enjoy Eloisa James books- particularly the fairy tale series. Somehow I had missed this title, so decided to try it in audio. Susan Duerden's performance was very annoying. Her voices and accents were fine, but every single sentence went up, then down, then slightly back up again in a nursery rhyme like sing-song that set my teeth on edge and has my neck and shoulders tense with bracing against it. I've listened to about 90 minutes and cannot continue.
"Loved It!"
Eloisa James really has a handle on the personalities of her characters. They were an adorable couple and the performer had a wonderful way of changing her voice to suit all of the characters in the book.
The dialogue between the two central characters.
No, but I will again.
Their meeting with Dr. Withering.
No.
"Couldn't get into it because of the reader"
I'm an Eloise James fan but I can't listen to this reader. She and Ann Flosnik are horrifying for me. I can't past their readings. Sorry.
Don't know didn't get that far
Completely. That's why I gave up on it.
Get better reader's. There are good ones out there. I have dozen's of books I won't buy because of the readers.
"Love Eloisa James!"
Eloisa James writing is fantastic!
The relationship between the Duke and duchess really evolved during this book. At first I didn't care for the Duchess and found her flighty and shallow and thought the Duke was being cold and distant but when they really began to talk to each other and truly get to know each other it became clear that both possesed a much deeper character than it initially appeared.
It actually took me a while to get used to her way of speaking. Her voice trailed up at the end of sentances quite a bit and it sounded odd at first but once I got used to it she was fine. Her voices for the charcters were excellent.
At one point it looks like there is no possible way that the Duke is going to survive from his heart condition. I really thought he was going to die at one point and I couldn't help but cry especially when they decide to take the gamble with his life.Thank goodness for romances as they almost always end up alright in the end.
I'm can't wait to read the next book Villiers seemed like a pretty sexy guy(I can't help but like the men who refuse to wear wigs) and I'm excited to hear his story.
