The Golden Goblet

My 10 year old reluctant reader son loved this book. I thought the narrator was great and I was happy to listen along. My son was disappointed it wasn't part of a series. The added plus was that it was educational and got him excited about Ancient Egypt.

There are many exciting moments -- enough that it was too absorbing to listen to at bedtime.

Excellent narrator for both children and adults to listen to. There are unfamiliar names and places in the book, due to its setting in Ancient Egypt, and I could imagine my son being frustrated with that if he had to read it without benefit of the audio. As it was, the names were handled so naturally it wasn't a barrier.

It was a very uplifting book by the end.

I read this novel with my class every other year. It was the only one for which I did not have an audio version. With great gusto, I began to play this version to my class. It didn't take long to realize that the fantastic story line was being buried underneath the narrator's repetitive pattern of emphasis in each sentence, no matter the content. I ended up reading the story to them myself, as I have other years. The book is fantastic, just read it the old-fashioned way. Audible, I would love for you to record this one with a different narrator. Love the story.

Great listen, loved the story. Keeps your attention. Not sure who loved it more, son, 13, or me. Listened for a school project. He's relistening. I will, too, when I have more time.
