Just when Leo, Baron Warhurst, thinks his family’s financial situation can’t get any worse, he discovers that his unwed sister is pregnant. The Warhurst estate is already crumbling thanks to Leo’s father’s numerous indiscretions, and unless Leo can prevent another scandal from erupting before he makes a fortuitous match with a wealthy heiress, his family will be ruined. Such are the dire straits that bring the ruthless young nobleman to the White Swan Inn, where he must suffer the indignity of asking a common seamstress for help spying on his sister’s lover.
Yet Alice Croft is anything but common. She is low-born, yes, but also strong-willed, clever, confident, and bears a luminous beauty Leo cannot ignore. Inexorably drawn to her, he knows that even the rumor of a liaison between them could ruin his marriage prospects. But the harder he fights against her, the stronger their attraction grows - until Leo is forced to choose between the woman who stole his heart and the family that demands his honor.
In this unforgettable follow-up to Her Secret Desire, Lord Warhurst’s turbulent love story unfolds with all the wit, passion, and drama that C. J. Archer’s growing legion of fans have come to expect.

I'm addicted to audiobooks. I've listened to probably 300 (maybe more) audiobooks most of which are historical romances. Listening is much easier than reading and you can do other things while listening. When reading you can't do anything but read.
"Another GREAT Listen!!!!"
I like that Warhurst fell in love with Alice the seamstress. Both Alice and Warhurst had to struggle with the "class" restrictions and expectations and finally overcame the issues. I think that I like Warhurst's mother the best though. She is such a strong determined woman and initially obviously does not approve of Alice, but she loves her children and has their best interest at heart.
Great - she's just great!
When the book ended I had a big grin on my face. This book just made me happy. At one point during the book I thought that I didn't like it as good as the first book in the series, but then as I kept listening this book is just as good as the first book. Just different.
I'll definitely be looking for more books by C. J. Archer. I love her writing style, characters and stories. Another great historical romance writer!
"ENJOYABLE STORY"
CJ Archer writes well with believable characters and good plots. I wasn't fussed on the narrator but got used to her. Overall an Enjoyable Story.
"another great listen"
Great story again in this series. Should listen to them in order, the story line carries through pretty strongly from the first to second book. Like this female lead, she is very strong and outspoken. The narrator is okay, still a little annoying. Highly recommend this series. Of course the final outcome is predictable, but getting to it is fun. Like the secondary story throughout both these books, that of the sister and her love.
“I love all genres of books, however when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
"Enjoyable romance"
Picking up where "A Secret Life" left off, we now see how Leo the Baron of Warhurst must deal with his family's dilemmas. CJ Archer makes a real leap of writing with this piece by raising the level of her hero. Leo is conflicted. He carries a lot of emotional baggage and it will take the seamstress Alice Croft to make him a better man. Archer skillfully weaves the plot, while building the emotional tension between Alice and Leo. The passion of the love scenes are driven by emotions, rather than lust. Archer instills the essence of true romance, making for a delightfully satisfying listen.
