Matthew King was once considered one of the most fortunate men in Hawaii. His missionary ancestors who came to the islands were financially and culturally progressive - one even married a Hawaiian princess, making Matt a royal descendant and one of the state's largest landowners. But now his luck has changed. His two daughters are out of control: 10-year-old Scottie has a smart-ass attitude and a desperate need for attention, and 17-year-old Alex, a former model, is a recovering drug addict. His thrill-seeking and high-maintenance wife, Joanie, lies in a coma after a boat racing accident, and will soon be taken off life support.
The King family can hardly picture life without their charismatic mother, but as they come to terms with this tragedy, their sadness is mixed with a sense of freedom that shames them - and spurs them into surprising actions.

"Very good book."
Not the kind of book that kept me hooked crazy trying to know the end, but still very good. There are conflicts of teens, kids, and family issues as normal people would experience in their own lives. The main character shows love in his owm way, not that kind of love we see in romances, but still a very true way of loving. I would also recommend watching the movie, I liked the version shown on it.
"boring..."
the story was long winded and of no real interest to me. I must admit perhaps seeing George Clooney might have added some interest, or some cuts in the plot.
Marigold hotel
Was read very well
storyline of some interest, but not a lot
"Loved it..."
The narrator and the storyline were well matched and it was a good book and a great listen.
"Compelling from the first paragraph!"
One of the best! I could not stop listening.
It is filled with both funny tender moments, a story of a a family finding each other.
The narrator is amazing, manages gender and age differences with amazing skill. This narration is a treasure.
The ending is very tender and sweet.
I have listened to this book three times in the three weeks since I downloaded it!
