New York Times best-selling author Jennifer Chiaverini’s delightful Elm Creek Quilts series features strong women who face life head-on and chronicle their triumphs and tragedies in elaborate quilts. Here, listeners meet Rosa Diaz Barclay, a woman fighting for her family’s survival in Prohibition-era Southern California.

“Jennifer Chiaverini’s strength is not only writing strong female characters, but also placing them in interesting lives and times.” (New York Review of Books)
"What happened to the language?"
I enjoyed listening to Sonoma Rose as I have all of the Elm Creek Quilter series. It has an interesting plot line and keeps you turning the pages. However Ms. Chiaverini has decided to add offensive language in the style of so many other books today. This saddens me because I have always enjoyed her books and felt safe reading them because I knew she wasn't going to throw offensive words in my face as I read. I would recommend her other books in the series but not this one because of the language and the immorality that was presented in a positive light.
I enjoyed learning about the California wine industry, especially the care of the vineyards, and how proabition put these families livlihoods in jeopordy. She presented the moral tension between keeping this new law and feeding your family very well.
She is a good narrator and does voices wonderfully.
I don't know. I wouldn't like the message it would send that immorality is justified by the circumstances.
I love the Elm Creek Quilter series and am hoping she will write a book telling us what happened to Elizabeth. Why did she stop writing to Sylvia?
"Disappointed !!!! Cuss words are unnecessary !!!!!"
It's one thing to here Cuss words in a public place or the work place. It's makes a differents in what buy and invite into your home.I've always enjoyed Jennifer's books!!! I always enjoyed the fact that I could share them with my daughters and granddaughters, but if
Jennifer's characters has to use foul words to express themselves I'll have to choose another
author!!!! I've loved her Quilt book series! Love Christina Moore! Good story! HATE foul language!!!!! Yes,disappointed that she had to go with the language!!

"Good look at the time/place"
I found myself searching the internet when I finished reading this book -- I was that convinced that Rose/Rosa and Lars/Nils and John Barclay must be real people who lived through prohibition in California wine country.
Ms Chiaverini did a wonderful job of research for this fascinating story. I'll read this again...
And enjoy it again.
"fit in well with other Elm Creek novels"
The pleasant pace and feel that is present in all Elm Creek novels.
The tie in with other Elm Creek characters.
I don't know.
Not extreme, but it did both.
"Not my favorite Elm Creeks Quilts novel"
I enjoyed the history and the description of setting very much. I got tired of the character, Rosa; while she is protrayed as a strong female character, you never really see her get angry. She thinks fast and puts her children first but other than that, I see her as very passive and got tired of hearing her voice.
Christina Moore does a good job with the characters, and showing their emotions the way she does helps the reader to actually feel the way they do.
I'm about half-way through and very bored with it. I haven't decided if I want to finish or not. I have always enjoyed Jennifer Chiaverini's novels so probably should see it through to the end.
Always looking for something new to to explore in life. Over 50, artistic, quilting is a passion. A long drive and a good book are the best
"the writing was very transporting"
Being taken back in time to a point in our history that was hard to imagine
As with all the authors books she does an excellent job taking you places and telling a human tell that you can picture happen in real life.
"One of the best Chiaverini Books"
This was one my favorite of the many Jennifer Chiaverini stories. She brings the characters to life and makes me feel what they feel and wish for what they wish for. The narration by Christina Moore, as always, is perfect and really compliments the story. I love how the "quilt" theme is somehow always entwined in every one of her stories. I love listening to them as I am working in my sewing room and creating my own works of art!
"Boring"
I don't know if it was the mood that I was in at the time, but this read did not capture my attention. I have read most of Jennifer Chiaverini's books and have loved most, but this read was boring if anything.
She is not my favorite reader. Too dry.
No
this will not stop me from being a fan. Her first books of the quilting club were my favorite.
"Sonoma Rose"
I couldn't put this book down! This book was wonderful. It only took me 2 days to finish.
The flood and the two kids that were sick.
The kids getting better after they got away from her abusive husband.
