What the Critics Say

"Clancy's latest novel traces the financial, political, military, and personal machinations that drive America into the next major global war.... a shocker climax so plausible you'll wonder why it hasn't yet happened. (Entertainment Weekly)

    "Narrator not so great"

I love Clancy books, but this Narrator is too robotic. Doesn't even sound human to me.

"Vintage Clancy - Deserves a Better Narrator"

Having read and enjoyed the book when it first came out in hardcover, I've just been waiting for the unabridged audible edition. I'm not sure I'll be able to stand the monotone narration for 36 hours. It's the worst I've ever heard.

Do NOT listen to this book while driving!!!!!!!!! This is a GREAT book, the narrator sucks, this guy had to be hired to do the computer voice for my Co-Pilot Truck GPS program.

I would have enjoyed Jack Sondericker or Scott Brick as a narrator, a Tom Clancy book deserves better............

"Excellent story, bad sound, bad narrator"

I almost stopped listening to this in the first two hours, but stuck it out, and the story was worth it, honestly. However, those first two hours...like listening to human Valium. I don't know which to blame: the engineering, or the narrator, but whichever is responsible...it is one of the worst sounding audiobooks I have ever listened to.

    "DEBT OF HONOR"

The story as always is outstanding. The recording is the worst I have ever heard. If you ever wondered how a book would sound if it was read by a computer this is it.. The speed is so slow I thought I had it on my IPhone at half speed when I checked I was listening to my IPOD. I have donwloaded over 200 books and this would be the first time I asked for a refund. Save your money until they fix their mistake.

    "Great Story, Terrible Narration"

Make sure you listen to the audio sample before buying this audiobook. It's very monotone and robotic. I enjoyed the story but it would have been much more enjoyable with a better narrator.

    "computer generated voice"

The engineer that produced this should be taken out and shoot. I can not believe
that this is the voice of a real person narrating. I just could not listen longer than the first chapter. A real waste of time and money.

"Clancy's best novel, but poorly narrated"

Listened from start to finish; I love the story but wish it was someone else narrating. Aside from the narrator I would have give this 5 stars. I will say that by the last part he had improved from a one star to a two. Michael Pritchard would have been the best but even Scott Brick would have been a dramatic improvement.

    "Read by a Frog"

I sure wish they'd let us rate narrators separately from the writers. Some reviews say it has bad sound engineering, but honestly I just don't hear a faulty recording. I hear a guy with a croak for a voice.

And honestly I find it annoying when someone can't pronounce America towns' names correctly, but has an overzealous flair for French words.

    "Bad Sound Engineering"

It is not the narrator's fault that this sounds like a monotone robot. This is a bad transfer. It sounds like they recorded it at one speed, then slowed it down so that many words are now slurred and drawn out. Also I feel that the "robot" problem is also from the transfer, by clipping off the upper and lower ranges of the sound pitches, it now sounds artificial in a lot of places.
