    "Epic yet intimate"

This is my first audio book download so I wasn't sure what to expect but I've enjoyed other novels by Patricia Briggs and I am also a fan of Joe Manganiello so I gave it a shot. What a wonderful experiance ! Listened all the way through on my trip from South Carolina to New Hamphire and the time flew by. Can't wait for the next book in the series. Think I'll be listening to the book again as I shop and wrap presents.

Ms Briggs has a way of using the classic hero's journey filled with mages, powerful bad guys, battles, treachery and even a dragon to move things along but she didn't leave out the element of humanity that makes me care about the characters. If you loved Dragonlance as a kid like I did then you too will probably enjoy the more mature Dragon Bones.

"Hurog means dragon-this dragon got me by the tale"

Just the right blend of fantasy and believable characters that behave in ways that make sense. Not many heroes have had to pretend to be an idiot so they aren't murdered by their own father. This one does. He knows the pain of betrayal but while it has made him cautious it hasn't made him bitter. He is forced to prove himself, redeem his family's heritage while avoiding dying or becoming a permanent resident in the High King's Asylum for Noble Embarrassments. There is also a bit of humor in all the right places and a hint of romance that might show up in the next book in the series. Also I loved the narration itself. Way to go Joe Manganiello. This is an audiobook that I'll be listening to again

    "Fun Listen"

Enjoyable, light listen. This isn't the newer genre of fantasy with edgy characters and political intrigue- it's a great older style with good action and a likeable hero. Top that off with a fantastic narrator, and it's one of the better listens I've had in a while. Looking forward to the next in the series...

    "Couldn't finish it"

The narration is flat and boring. The story is very cliche. A "nobody" makes his attempt to achieve greatness. I've heard it a 1000 times before, and after an hour into the book, I thought, "What's the point?". If you're looking for something engaging, intriguing, exciting, with plot twists, this probably isn't it.

    "Enjoyable"

Worth the credit. I wish it were a bit longer. I do agree with some of the other reviewers, this book is a bit light. Tends to stay toward the surface and is a bit typical.

But, I still enjoyed it. Will I remember most of the story a year from now? Maybe not, but it will pass the time.

    "Nailed it."

I'd been worried about a reader's take on Ward, whose speech is described as frustratingly slow. I shouldn't have worried - Joe Manganiello's rendition of Ward is perfect. He stresses the slow speech only when necessary to the story. Otherwise, we hear Ward's mental voice, with all the sly wit, sadness, and fury Ms. Briggs wrote into him.

Dragon Bones is one of my favorite Patricia Briggs books. Ward & Oreg showcase her remarkable ability to characterize - and J Manganiello captures them very well.

    "Can't wait for the Sequel"

I loved this book, and I thought Joe Manganiello gave a fabulous reading performance. As always in her books, Briggs skillfully creates viewpoint characters who have weaknesses, yet who are undeniably heroes. As to the rape backstory -- She never glamorizes these attacks. The heroes overcome this ultimate mental and physical assault after a difficult battle. You never have any doubt that the rapists are villains who deserve what the heroes eventually do to them. I love plots in which characters overcome their own weaknesses and prove just how great they really are. That's why I adore Patricia Briggs, and list her as one of my personal writing goddesses.

    "Good read!"

I really enjoyed this one. The characters are interesting and the story is very good. Too bad Audible doesn't have the sequel "Dragon Blood".

"Great storyteller with a talented narrator"

I have yet to read a novel by Patricia Briggs and be disappointed, but I hesitated before downloading this book because I usually read Urban Fantasy. The story was a breath of fresh air, set in a different time, a different type of storyline, and I thought Joe Manganiello did a superb job of story telling. I'll be looking for more books read by this narrator. On a side note, I was looking forward to listening to the Wolfsbane series, but I really wish a better narrator had been chosen. Manganiello and the narrators for the other 2 series were excellent, but Kathryn Kelgren overacts, and her nasal sarcastic voice gets on my nerves and makes me dislike the characters she portrays.

    "A good story"
What did you love best about Dragon Bones?

    It is capivating

Have you listened to any of Joe Manganiello’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

First time with this narrator, but I will enjoy his voice again.

    Any additional comments?

Read the book multiple times. Hearing the book gave me a fresh look.
