In the valley of Fruitless mountain, a young girl named Minli lives in a ramshackle hut with her parents. In the evenings, her father regales her with old folktales of the Jade Dragon and the Old Man on the Moon, who knows the answers to all of life's questions. Inspired by these stories, Minli sets off on an extraordinary journey to find the Old Man on the Moon to ask him how she can change her family's fortune.
She encounters an assorted cast of characters and magical creatures along the way, including a dragon who accompanies her on her quest for the ultimate answer.
Grace Lin, author of the beloved Year of the Dog and Year of the Rat, returns with a wondrous story of adventure, faith, and friendship. A fantasy crossed with Chinese folklore, Where the Mountain Meets the Moon is a timeless story reminiscent of The Wizard of Oz.

"Children will embrace this accessible, timeless story about the evil of greed and the joy of gratitude." (Booklist)
I am a life long student. I love to study and learn and I enjoy factual books but also well research novels. At age 75 I have read lots.
"Wonderful lessons to live by in this book"
Absolutely and I will with my Great Grand Children.
I love the legend of the Red Thread
One of my favorite narrators ... sorry cant chose
It was very special and I felt both joy and sadness in places.
I wish every child (and some adults) could have the exposure to the depth of this story and the wonder of what happens when you let life happen and make unselfish decisions. I am also reading and researching other books by Grace Lin she is a master in her field.
"Great Folklore"
I purchased for my son, he likes anything w/ dinos and dragons. This is a great story for kids, he is mad I only let him listen for 15 min before bed.
"Great book, great narrator"
I am so excited finishing this book. It is like a all-star Chinese fairytale, the main storyline is well designed, and many Chinese folklores are smartly integreted within. Even supporting characters are famous and have their own wonderful legends, that why I call it all-star. I love the book.
