Publisher's Summary

Cadfael's return to his Welsh homeland for a visit proves a rather discomfiting homecoming when an honorable nobleman turns up in a patch of forest with an arrow embedded in his chest. There are questions about the arrow, the man's daughter needs Cadfael's help, and a very odd burial takes place.

"Very pleasant if not much of a mystery."

I think this is the pleasantest book I've read in a while - the main and supporting characters are very nice, not hard, cynical or vicious as they frequently are in mysteries. I smiled all the way through and enjoyed the story and the historical aspects thoroughly. Very low-tech by way of forensics - much more about thoughtful, deductive reasoning. The narrator is quite engaging!

    "Love the new narrator"

This is one of my favorite Brother Cadfael stories, and the new narrator, Patrick Tull, does a very good job of bringing the characters to life.

    "The Best of Brother Cadfael"
Where does A Morbid Taste for Bones rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

This is one of the best. Patrick Tull is perfect for Brother Cadfael. Ellis Peters and Brother Cadfael are classics, and this is the best of the series.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Morbid Taste for Bones?

Without giving away the ending, the ending shows Ellis Peter's humor at its peak. She has a subtle humor, that satirizes many aspects of Medieval life at once.

Have you listened to any of Patrick Tull???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Other Brother Cadfael books. Patrick Tull captures the aging contemplative, who still keeps one foot in the outside world, perfectly.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

How do you solve a murder, and make everyone happy at once?

    Any additional comments?

If you want a well written Medieval mystery series, this is the place to start.

    "Great Listen, Funny, Super Plot!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The first in a long series of historic mysteries that keep you want to experience the adventures of this stout old monk. The narrator makes you see the different characters easily. The different people in the story are well developed and become real and complex. The author is in this story especially able to let the listener step back and look at the happenings with a human and wistful view. One of my most favorite listens ever.

What other book might you compare A Morbid Taste for Bones to and why?

To Say Nothing To Say About The Dog. by Connie Willis. This book is much slower in pace, but has also great writing and fun.

What does Patrick Tull bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Tull makes Catfael rounder and sturdier and more humorous and human, more forgiving.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes

    "Love Brother Cadfael Mysteries..."

This is a wonderful mystery in a historical setting beautifully read. The characters and setting are well developed with a level of detail that lets you really get to know them and "see" them, too. Patrick Tull's voice telling the story is perfect-you will quickly be immersed in Brother Cadfael's world.

A terrific book that is also a wonderful audio book. Thoroughly enjoyable.

    "Excellent in every way."

I must say this audiobook was absolutely wonderful. Hated to stop it and couldn't wait to find out what happened next. A great start to Ellis Peter's mysteries.

"a must for Brother Cadfael fans"
What made the experience of listening to A Morbid Taste for Bones the most enjoyable?

Patrick Tull's reading of the unabridged version of Ellis Peter's (Edith Pargeter) A Morbid Taste for Bones is lovely to listen to. The pacing is relaxed, feels unhurried, and keeps the spirit of Brother Cadfael. The

    "Tiresome"

I typically love who-dunnits from this era - this one was, without doubt, the most boring book I've ever struggled through. I did love the narrator - the only thing that got me to the end. There was just nothing interesting about this - I figured it out almost immediately and there was just nothing there to hold interest. Skip it!
