"A Good Romance, But:"
Overall I liked the book, with the caveat that I read romances when I want something that requires only half a brain to get the plot. Good points are: Race is all you want a guy to be in a romance and more! He's so sweet you'll want him for yourself. Also he's just as emotional as Rebecca, just in a different way. Bad points: the book has Anderson's MO all over it so there are no surprises. The heroine is exceptionally weak and helpless throughout most of the book and can wear on the nerves -- but she does make up for it in the end. Serious mis-representation of quakerism! Quakers are strongly non-violent, but almost nothing else in Anderson's portrayal was accurate especially about them being phenatical christians. Read this if you want easy mindless entertainment.
"Could have been half the time!"
I did not like this book. I read it through to see if it would get better. There were some ok moments but God, if the heroine could be any more stupid and week, and the hero more wise and powerful. How could the author write of a woman so pitiful.
"Romantic"
Loved it...Very entertaining, romantic love story!
I read so I can write
"It's better than that"
I was a little surprised at the poor reviews given to this book. It's not a 5 star book, but is a solid story with strong characters and a believable ending. The romance is not erotica so possibly that turns off some romance readers, but it is believable.
"Good listen"
I really enjoyed this book it had all the elements
"EXCELLENT"
I ALWAYS ENJOY CATHERINE ANDERSON. THIS IS A SWEET STORY. THE NARRATOR, HOWEVER, WAS NOT THE BEST - YOU CAN HEAR HER SWALLOWING WHICH I FOUND ANNOYING.
"A good western..."
the heroine is a little silly a couple of scenes but that's just her character. I've listened to this one several times over the years.
"Disappointed by following other reviewers feedback"
The story was rather lame.
The story has era inconsistencies. It wasn't spread over the time in a realistic manner, for example, Rebecca's ability to come in and out of shock induced catatonic states with little effort or time. Also, she is able to go from Bible thumper to going along with strange men after the trauma of her family's death in a couple of days.
Spacing out the story realistically and making the dialog less juvenile.
Almost immediate disappointment in my purchase.
"Not very exciting"
This one was kinda dull. I tolerated it and finished it, too. I was on a long trip so I half listened.
