Path of Daggers: Book Eight of The Wheel of Time

I have loved this book series for many years. It is a cult classic and a great sci fi fantasy series. I read everyday and I am now listening to the whole series again. I love this series and even the new book written by another author after Robert Jordan died.

I love the readers they bring the story to life!

Similar in style to Lord of the Rings. Very much a questing story with a detailed world and detailed description. There are a lot of characters to remember and it is difficult at first but by the second or third book you don't have to think about who the characters are any more and you can really enjoy the twists and turns of the plot.

I really liked Perrin and Elaine.

The fantasy story of our time. Amazing that it can keep going even with the authors death. It's worth while to listen / read this series in chronological order

You are reading the best epic fantasy series there is. period. It may take a while to get into it but you will. There are 2600 plus characters but don't get scared teenagers read this every day. You will know these peoples as "friends" and "enemies" and like your own family. Read by the dynamic duo of recitation kate reading and michael kramer... they pull it all together .. I switch genres just to listen to them... It [the series] is really one huge wonderful story broken into 14 too short books that nobody wants to see ended..I can not express how good these books are. I have started 16 different friends reading TWoT and they are all addicted. You think that maybe the books are enchanted some how???

Although the story itself was alright, the audio editing was horrible quality with many bits of audio repeating due to careless editing and some very strange audio artifacts sneaking in every once in a while.

Kate Readings reading style does not appeal to me as she over dramatisizes some of the speech leading to some very annoying listening, every time she tries to portray a female character speaking in distress it sounds rather annoying.

This book was not as good as the first 6 just like book 7 it gos on and on about things you don't care about and he could have gotten rid of half of it and it would have been better. Also to many people to try to follow I find myself getting lost.All the books a long winded but this on takes the cake and I don,t care what they are dressed up inis it a fashion show or a adventure . I hope the next book is better.

I very much enjoyed the first 6 books, but since the 7th this series has started to get bogged down. This particular book to my mind is the worst of the lot. Jordan is having difficult tying together somewhat disjointed plot lines and is losing the plot in giving us a clearer description of what is happening in some situations. Rand barely gets a look in and the main episode with him against the Seanchan is probably the worst piece of writing he has done to date. There are way too many characters (and dresses) and descriptions into details of almost minute proportions serve to distract the listener and do nothing to advance the story line. Frankly the books could be easily half the length without all the dross.

Having said that, if you have already gone through the first 7 books, then continue, although this is sometimes punishment that the Mistress of Novices might be handing out. I trust the rest of the series picks up and gets to the point a little quicker and with less distraction.

As usual the readers have delivered an excellent vocalisation of the content. Full marks the Michael and Kate.

I've given this a 4 only because of the benefit of the previous material, otherwise it would score 3.5

From book 5 on the women are depicted as becoming more and more selfish, deceitful and basically intolerable. The men are mechanical, boring and insane. To applaud a hero they must have some redeeming qualities like respect for honor , loyality, sensitivity to the suffering of the the weak. I think with Jordan gone the purpose of character has been lost. I don't care who wins out there are no worthy choices

If you have read the whole series to this point, the depth of the character development is paying off in spades!

Master (or Lord) Matt Cauthen has grown into this exciting and legendary warrior/leader/horn blower!
