Publisher's Summary

Coco Barrington was born into a legendary Hollywood family: her mother Florence is a mega-best-selling author, and her sister Jane is one of Hollywood's top producers. Jane has lived with her partner, Liz, for 10 years, in a solid relationship. Florence, widowed but still radiant, has just begun a secret romance with a man 24 years her junior. And Coco, a law school dropout and the family black sheep, works as a dog walker, having fled life in the spotlight for the artsy northern California beach town of Bolinas.

When Coco reluctantly agrees to house-sit in Jane's luxurious home, it turns out Jane's house comes complete with an unexpected houseguest: Leslie Baxter, a dashing but down-to-earth British actor who's fleeing a psycho ex-girlfriend. Their worlds couldn't be more different. The attraction couldn't be more immediate.

Suddenly Coco is seeing things differently: Leslie is not just a celebrity, he's a single dad to an adorable six-year-old girl. Her mother is a woman in love, with vulnerability and new insight. And Jane and Liz are about to take the bravest plunge of all - into parenthood.

As Coco contemplates a future with one of Hollywood's hottest stars, as her mother and sister settle into their lives, old wounds are healed and new families are formed - all bonded by love.

With wit and intelligence, Danielle Steel explores love in all its guises, taking us into the lives of three unusual but wonderfully real couples. One Day at a Time is at once moving, thought provoking, and utterly impossible to put down.

    "Difficult to finish"

I am having difficulty finishing this book. I read some of Steel's books when I was younger, and really liked some of them (e.g. "Loving") but not others (e.g. "The Promise"). This one was boring and repetitive - you would have one character complaining about something over and over and over and over... I am not sure where the story is going. I am half-way through, and if it wasn't for the pleasantness and sweetness of the narrator I would not even attempt to finish it

Steel writes as if she is talking to children. I could hardly get through the book. First and last time I will get her books. It's boring and insulting.

    "Lacks Imagination"

A silly, sappy, predictable love story with shallow one-dimensional characters. The conflicts between characters are contrived and there is no real tension. The narrator's voice is cringe-worthy in some sections.

    "The Usual...sappy romance!"

I haven't read a Danielle Steele novel in about 20 years, used to love them for a quick read. I picked this one for something in the car, and apparently my tastes have changed. The storyline is good, regular, sappy love story but didn't like all the "sidetrips" the author takes while telling the story. There seem to be many spots, she is narrating the story, then goes off to give more details on something about one of the characters that is too much information, so it makes the reading a little monotonous. If you like this genre, then you will probably like this one.

    "I Love to Read"
What did you love best about One Day at a Time?

The story line of the book

Who was your favorite character and why?

Leslie Baxter because of is charm and because he is a caring man. They do not make many men like this any more.

Have you listened to any of Dan John Miller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first time I have heard him but I would not mind listening to him again.

Who was the most memorable character of One Day at a Time and why?

Coco because she is brave enough to stand up for what she believes and live the way she really wants too.

    Any additional comments?

I love a happy ending it makes my day

    "Pretty Cute"

Thoroughly formula, rather saccharine but lovely. This is the kind of book you want to read to cheer you up or to stop thinking. Definitely listen again
