Publisher's Summary

When FBI agent Grayson Kincaid first encounters Olivia MacKenzie, she makes quite an impression. The beautiful, tough young attorney has stumbled into the middle of an FBI sting operation and reduced it to chaos. Months of surveillance and careful planning down the drain, Kincaid’s partner is furious and lets Olivia know that she’s ticked off the wrong guy. After all, he’s FBI.

But Olivia isn’t intimidated by his partner’s bullying because she’s something even scarier...she’s IRS.

And working for the IRS is no picnic. She’s on the trail of an elaborate Ponzi scheme, one that threatens to ruin the lives of naive and unsuspecting victims, and one she has personal reasons to be angry about. But after she asks the wrong people questions, her life is suddenly endangered. She’s accustomed to looking out for others who are weak, but being vulnerable herself makes her realize she needs help. In desperation, she calls Grayson Kincaid.

Together they join forces to fight corruption, but Olivia is also fighting the immediate and intense attraction she feels for Agent Kincaid, and that may be a battle she is bound to lose.

What the Critics Say

"As always, Ms. Garwood creates engaging characters who come alive page after page. The banter and interaction between Ellie and Max is beyond charming. Ellie is a spirited and strong heroine, and Max is charming in a stoic, gruff sort of way." (New York Journal of Books on The Ideal Man)

"Julie Garwood creates masterpieces every time she writes a book. Indeed, she is the Rembrandt of romance novels." (The Kansas City Star)

"Julie Garwood has become a trusted brand name in romantic fiction." (People)

    "Good story but annoying narrator"
What did you like best about Sweet Talk? What did you like least?

I love all of Julie Garwood's books. I just wish I had read the book on this one instead of listening to it. The narrater has an annoying habit of ending words and sentences with an upward tinny pitch.

There isn't really any difference in her voice when she is narrating female dialog and giving background information. Her male voices are not very good.

The story is good except the author tells you the main character has a "touch of Asthma" but through out the book she is desperately seeking her emergency inhaler. This got old fast. I think she used the emergency inhaler several time each day. All I could think of was the main character needs to see a pulmonary specialist.

I have an addiction to Audio books. What I can't get at the library, I come to Audible and they are always having a sale. I have way more audiobooks than I could possible listen to in over 3 years, but I can't help but adding to my collection and I read a little of everything but mostly romance and paranormal goodies.

    "Three words I R S."

I really, really like Julie Garwood’s older books, but with that said her newer stuff leaves something to be desired. Both story and narrator was mediocre, it does get better towards the end. I was annoyed with this book mainly because every time you turned around the guy took off with out a word for several weeks, without a word. Then the girl was mad, but then he comes back and everything is hunky dory with out saying a word about it. It did have some quirky moments when the heroine was threatening the bad guys with her IRS job.

Lord, is the Narrator terrible! It was like listening to a cartoon mob boss ( tossing coin, cigar and all). I tried very hard to get past it but could not. Could have been a great book but....

What disappointed you about Sweet Talk?

I didn't get 5 five minutes into the book when my ears started bleeding from the narrator. I will have to go buy the book.

Would you ever listen to anything by Julie Garwood again?

Julie Garwood is my favorite author, even though I hated "The Ideal Man" I hoped this one would be better...I will have to buy the book and read it to see.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Angela Dawe?

My 6 year old could do better than Dawe!!!!

    "More Please...More!"

Julie Garwood is a very talented storyteller! I loved every minute of Sweet Talk: A Novel. I love her historical romance novels, as well as her contemporary romance novels.
Angela Dawe is one of my favorite narrators who has performed more than 100 books on Audible alone. I really don't understand the negative reviews on Ms. Dawe. Her style of narration is very easy to follow and identify each separate character...male or female. Her ear for accents, such as those used in the Highlander/Historical Romances, demonstrates and confirms a real talent.
    Great Book! Definitely Credit Worthy!!

    "Lose the narrator!"

I love Julie Garwood and always wait for the next book. But what a disappointment. I hardly wanted to finish this one simply because of the narrator. Very ho-hum style with the same inflections over and over. I'm not sure I can even read the hard copy version without it being ruined now. Too bad. Don't let her read any more of your books, Julie.

    "if you like 'em Sweet!"

good old fashion wit, and sexy flirtatious dialogue. Garwood's old humor comes out!
I have made up excuses to stay in the car so I can listen longer. This is light listening and a good show of a group of girls/ladies who have stuck by each other. Ms Dawe is not a new reader. She does tend to up turn her voice at the end of some sentences, but her fast pace makes up for this. Great for a long drive. You must be an Garwood fan of her contemporary stories. I have purchased Sizzle and I am only on chapter 4 on this book. I wanted to give Garwood fans a brief report.

Would you try another book from Julie Garwood and/or Angela Dawe?

Can't even listen to the story cause I can't get past the voice. I love Julie's books and Angela Dawe just ruined it for me. I don't know if I can continue to listen it hurts my ears.

How could the performance have been better?

    Loose Angela Dawe

    Any additional comments?

If I could return it I would.
