"An incredible trek, and Ambrose brilliantly illuminates every mile of it." (The Tampa Tribune)
"Band of Brothers"
A good, basic treatment. I quickly realized I would have preferred the unabridged version.
"Bare bones"
This audiobook should stand as an example of why abridged audiobooks should be shunned. This abridgement is a strip job. A great story has been stripped to bare bones and made very hard to follow. People just pop up out of nowhere and you're expected to somehow know who the narrator is talking about.
Still a good listen. Great narrator. A fine companion to the print version and the HBO miniseries. These were some tough people.
"Wished it was unabridged"
Having read the book multiple times, I thought that the story would help pass the time while driving. Overall, I thought that the story is great, but found myself wondering why there wasn't an unabridged version, which would tie the story together a bit better.
"I wish it were Unabridged!!!"
This is a great story and an enjoyable book. It is unbelievable what these men, and others like them accomplished in WWII. It really goes hand in hand with the HBO Series.
"Angels from the sky!"
This book is definately a classic and tells the story of the men who sacrificed to deliver us from the German occupation. Living in Eindhoven, the Netherlands which was liberated by the 101st this book for me was very touching.
Well narrated, well written, it tells the personal story of the men who fought and died to fight the Nazis.
Too bad there isn't an unabridged audio version.!
"Excellent..."
Having first watched the HBO version of the story and then listened to it on audio, it brought a whole new life to something I already thoroughly enjoyed. Ambrose finds a way to make you care about each man, making each one the hero that they truly were.
"Superb"
A superior work telling the story of ordinary men becoming superior through circumstance. I just wish that there was an unabridged version as there was a lot of detail left out compared to the ful; text. Still a great listen with first class narration.
"Great Listen"
Wonderful to listen to. Makes me want to read the book and watch the HBO mini-series. Ambrose has a gift for bringing out the horror and humanity of war. Sometimes, the characters (i.e. who was who) were a bit hard to follow.
"Well-produced"
I'm not a fan of abridgemens, and this version of "Band of Brothers" reminds me why I'm not. Although this audiobook is extremely well-produced, and Cotter Smith's narration is flawless, I missed the details I'd seen in the HBO miniseries. I wanted to know more about the men, more than the miniseries told; on that score, this abridged audiobook came up short. I wish now that I had read the full book, and then watched the miniseries. Ah, well. This was a quick, complelling listen.
