Publisher's Summary

Eleven thousand years ago, before the seas swallowed the Atlanteans, Poseidon assigned a few chosen warriors to act as sentinels for humans in the new world. There was only one rule - desiring them was forbidden. But rules were made to be broken.

Riley Dawson is more than a dedicated Virginia Beach social worker. She's blessed with a mind link that only Atlanteans have been able to access for thousands of years. Being an "empath" may explain her wistful connection to the roiling waves of the ocean, the sanctuary it provides, and the sexual urges that seem to emanate from fathoms below....

Conlan, the High Prince of Atlantis, has surfaced on a mission to retrieve Poseidon's stolen trident. Yet something else has possessed Conlan: the intimate emotions - and desires - of a human. Irresistibly drawn to the uncanny beauty, Conlan soon shares more than his mind. But in the midst of a battle to reclaim Poseidon's power, how long can a forbidden love last between two different souls from two different worlds?

"VERY HAPPY TO SEE (HEAR) ALYSSA DAY ON AUDIBLE!!!"

I love this series and I am very pleased that Audible has picked it up. Alyssa gives us a totally different view of the supernatural world with her Warriors of Poseidon. I really loved her take on the Atlantis mythology and how she adds vamps and weres into the mix. The love story can be a little corny at times, but that, to me, is just a part of the "formal speak" of Conlan's people so it fits. The only thing I was not thrilled with was the narrator. Joshua Swanson has a great tone of voice but I think he kinda of over does it when reading this type of story. His style, to me, would be more for a children's story where the more drama the better. At times through out the story it gets a bit too much. I see that he is slated to do the rest of the series and I can only hope he tones it down a bit, and changes the pronunciation of the word em-path. He sounds like he is saying "M-pith" stressing the M and pith instead of PATH. I know it is silly to mention one single word, but it is just a pet peeve of mine. So, my rating for the book itself is a 5 star but the narration is only 3 star (if that). I will round it out to a 4 star total. (I wish there was a way to give separate ratings and then a final rating). I will probably buy the next book to see if Joshua is any better. If not.............maybe if they go on a $4.99 sale.
I also need to mention........for those who are not into explicit sex and language, this series may not be for you.

"My 1st & LAST Alyssa day book. Physically painful!"

I don???t know which was worse: The narrator or the dialogue. The narrator tried ??? bless his little inept heart, he really did. But he sucked rocks. I???ve been listening to audio books for years, and this guy rivals the worst narrator I have ever heard (See Juanita Parker who is the narrator for the original Dark Prince by Christine Feehan. Great Feehan book ??? pitiful narrator). I can???t believe that the rest of these Atlantis books are also narrated by Joshua Swanson. The man should be selling cars, not narrating books.
Adding insult to severe injury is the dialogue in this book. I rolled my eyes so many times I was worried they???d get stuck in my forehead. Such pathetic attempts at masculine warrior banter and bad, tired jokes were so hard to listen to I threw up in my mouth a little.
This book could have been exceptional. I give the author props for the original idea. Maybe reading this book would have been better, I don???t know. All I do know is that I wanted to physically harm the narrator and repeatedly ask the author, ???Really? Is that the best you could come up with???? Wow - this really bit the big one people. Avert your eyes and move along.

    "Horrible Narrator"

I was so looking forward to this series it sounded great BUT… The narrator is so bad he tries to use different (bad) voices for each person, then the back and forth between the formal speech and the street slang is so off putting I think if the just didn’t randomly go into the formal speech then it would mesh fine with the street slang but just pop in because someone says something that they think is important is just off putting. I could only get 2 hours into this book before I had to shut it off or stomp my mp3 player to death. WASTE of my CREDIT!!!

"Could have been a good story...."
What would have made Atlantis Rising better?

    Story lacked content and substance.
I have never written a review before but please don't waste your money.
It was just asenine and stupid. So Sorry.

Would you ever listen to anything by Alyssa Day again?

    no

What didn’t you like about Joshua Swanson’s performance?

His voice just didn't reflect what I felt the character's would have sounded like, but then the whole thing was a disappointment.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    mostly disappointment and annoyance.

    Any additional comments?

Just really sorry and not wanting to hurt anyone's feelings but really bad.

    "Completely off-putting"

I was fascinated by the mythos described in summaries and reviews of this book, but twenty minutes into the audiobook I gave up. I am completely on-board with the idea that ancient immortals are going to develop language that's appropriate to the time period, but I was so thrown by an ancient demigod with a mouth like a New York main sewer that I turned the book off. I just couldn't get past it. Too much too soon, and not at all a character that encouraged me to delve more deeply into the series. Perhaps it gets better, but as an opener it was too off-putting for me to be able to suffer through to what may be a genuinely interesting storyline.

I have an addiction to Audio books. What I can't get at the library, I come to Audible and they are always having a sale. I have way more audiobooks than I could possible listen to in over 3 years, but I can't help but adding to my collection and I read a little of everything but mostly romance and paranormal goodies.

    "Didn't quite make the mark."

This book was okay 3.5 overall, I had high hopes for it but I couldn't connect with the story. The story was confusing because the narrator was so bland and then he would overdo it, that my mind would wonder. Then I was wondering what the heck did I miss, but was unwilling to rewind to listen to it again. He does get better the longer you listen. Whenever Conlan was talking in his "formal speech" all I could think of was the movie Coneheads and I just couldn't take Conlan seriously. Half the time I felt the characters were all talking about something different and not on the same subject. I almost feel that the author was trying to introduce too many characters, so much that she missed the main characters personalities, they were only all about tearing each other clothes off. I didn't bond with anybody. I don't know if I am willing to buy another one, I might be willing to give it another shot but it defiantly would have to be on sale.

    "Very good series!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

    Interesting twist on Atlantis fantasy.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I was on a trip with a very long drive and was able to listen completely thru. Made the long drive very entertaining.

    Any additional comments?

I have already purchased the rest of the series to listen to. Looking forward to the other Warriors stories.

    "A little goofy"
What did you like best about Atlantis Rising? What did you like least?

I liked the hotness of the man-crew that is the warriors of Poseidon, but the dialogue and writing just isn't natural. I'm happy to suspend my beliefs for fantasy romance, but this guy's voices are so silly. Between that and the crappy dialogue, it just isn't believable. It isn't the worst I've had, but it wasn't for me. I won't be reading the next.

How could the performance have been better?

Better voices especially for Conlin and all the bad guys. So goofy.

Was Atlantis Rising worth the listening time?

    Kinda.

    "VT. FAN"
What did you love best about Atlantis Rising?

Typical paranormal romance but I liked the Atlantis setting and the mythology involved.

What other book might you compare Atlantis Rising to and why?

Lara Adrian (Breed series) Wards (BBD series) Larrisa Ione (Demonica series) group of hot warriors saving the world with a fiesty human female in tow. Good dialogue with humor.

What about Joshua Swanson’s performance did you like?

I agree with other reviewers Swanson not a good choice so I decided to not buy the rest of series but about half way through his voice grew on me so I did purchase rest of series.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    no
